Set up the new sprinkler in the silkie courtyard. It oscillates back and forth and I can adjust width. I set it to water over the length of the roof and almost to the top so it would cool the roof and pens as well some while I watered the 50x30 area. I have some of these on low bases I use for the garden. New one is on a tall tripod so I dont have to set it up on stacked cinder blocks. Works with low water pressure as well.

Silkies that I let out in the courtyard this afternoon were happy with the dampness. It had dried enough that the grass wasnt wet.

Richard did that this morning he sprayed cool water around their tractor then on the roof of the coop but we also have 3 fans in their coop all the time in the summer.

I have greenhouse tarp on the west and south side because it keeps it cooler by keeping some of the sun out. I found that out a couple years ago. The other sides are only tarped in winter to keep the heat in.

I keep forgetting about this thread! Need to hang out with my WA peeps. Though I don't have much to report. Working 3 jobs, lots of chicks, garden.. busy busy busy.

Oh, boy. I now have 2 broodies. One, I am letting set 6 eggs. The other is just broody. Have her in jail tonight, put her outside the coop all day. Talk about a mad chicken! The cockerel is still attacking everyone from behind, and I pinned him again today. Cinnamon was trying to come and peck at his head while I had him down, so had to shoo her away (he still hasn't gotten above her in the pecking order). I don't have the fortitude to make soup out of him. Will he ever settle down? He's almost 18 wks. Sapphire Gem.

Now it's berry picking every other day! Busy time of year. Finally got straw mulch over most of the garden, so not as much watering to do. Yay! Romaine is about done. Time to start bok choy and more lettuce.

Sometimes they do, but much of the time they dont. Puncture wounds from spurs is good incentive to soup them. Any puncture wound is dangerous. Which reminds my clumsy self that it's time to update my tetanus shot.

17 broody silkies, and 4 broody EEs.

Which is why Im letting them have chicks. Molly will probably take all the chicks in her pen. She's gone broody 4 times since January. Barely waited 2 weeks after I moved her and the last batch of chicks to the silkie pens to go broody again. She's very good at wrangling chicks.

He doesn't have spurs, yet. Thanks for the reminder. The 2 broodies are repeats from last summer. I only have 7 hens, 4 pullets just starting to lay. Getting shell-less eggs from one of them, and had a regular sized double yolk egg from one, too. Most eggs look like banty eggs. They'll get larger over time, surely.
