Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Nice misty drizzle, most likely not enough to sufficiently water the garden. I saw mama hen taken by a coyote yesterday. 😭 ( She had been roosting on top of the enclosure with her 4 chicks where I couldn't reach them, so was out ranging early every day). I will keep all of the girls up locked up for a few weeks. The littles are now 5 weeks old, and calling for her. They are separated from the older hens so they can eat their food without being chased. Will they be ok? There ARE 2 roos after all. Parents are both Sapphire gems. Not sure if I want both of them. They are already challenging each other!

Oh that’s just so sad! I saw a barred owl sleeping in a tree not far from my chickens yesterday. I was hoping he had a belly full of rabbit.
Are you thinking of putting the littles in with the others? Is that what you meant about them being ok? They won’t die of grief calling for their mum but it might put you ever the edge! I feel for you, I can’t stand to hear critters in distress!

They are in the brooding coop, but can see and even join the others if they want, but the big girls cannot get into the brooding coop. Relieved they'll be ok without mama, but yes, heartbreaking to listen to their distress. Are young cockerels easier to re-home?

I want to say it might be easier ? I take extra birds to the Auction.
Problem for some there not up to us to decide what is done with them then.
Figured out the mint egg in banty coop it was not Fraz.
It was our little blue EE. She passed early on.

I was told to post this here, but anybody want some ducklings? I have four, sweet, almost two week old ducklings that need a new home as a broody got away with hatching them out when I have no room for more birds. They are from what I know, khaki Campbell x runner mixes Bred to a blue Swedish ducklings. I live in the Wenatchee, WA area and really need to find these guys a home
