First of all, I find none of my chickens at any age will go in before dusk. I wait and close them in at that time. Secondly, once they are in, my teenagers will often want to roost in the nesting boxes instead of up on the roost. I pick them up and put them up there. After a few times of that, all I have to do is walk into the coop and they move up there on their own.Picked about 40# of paste tomatoes yesterday. Looking like they will all finish on the plants. That's a bigyay! Next project is making and canning sauce as they ripen in their boxes taking over my living room.
How do you persuade teenage chickens and younger chicks to go to bed sooner? They will not ce when the treat can is shaken, and I can't seem to herd them into the door. Because of coyotes, I stay outside with them now, so I was stuck outside yesterday and had to apologize to Hubby for not being able to make dinner. Asked him to bring home some KFC. Yeah, wanted to eat chicken. LOL.They we're not let out today. I was too tired to sit out there and chase them later.
I am so Sorry ..I just had a rooster die right in front of me while I was feeding this morningI felt so helpless, he was gaping his mouth and seemed to be choking. No other symptoms at all, healthy 10 month old black copper marans roo. He's been in heavy molt along with the rest of the flock. He is in a bachelor pen with our special needs older roo as his buddy, and he's been a really great, relaxed guy in that job. I'm so sad about it.
