Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We love artichokes here....or is it the butter and mayo we love???
I love them too! I actually may try cooking cardoons again because they are so big it’sa wonderful way to get more food at a reasonable price. In this case, free since these have been in my garden for years and my sister gave me the first plant.

Good morning state, short pants no socks.
I cook many veggies lot's of garden salads. Too early in the year.
I grew up not knowing they can and freeze veggies.
Some real simple I will buy frozen. Buy a normandy mix at Costco.

It's going to reach the 90s here this weekend. I think spring has sprung, finally.

I believe I allowed one of my pullets to acquire a bad habit. When I'm feeding them greens by hand, the little silver colored on feels it's her right to jump up and perch on my arm. I thought it was cute, until today.

Since they're putting on the weight, she had to grip harder to stay on my arm. With no sleeves, today her claws (or should I say TALONS) drew blood! Dang! I need to make sure she has no chance to perch on my arm from now on. It's dangerous. LOL

I went inside and washed the puncture with soap and water, doused it with hydrogen peroxide, flooded it with alcohol, and finished off with a smear of triple antibiotic ointment.

Innoculated with chicken poop! Wonder if it will boost my immunity to something????

Here's a picture of the beast, the one that's got a lot of white in her feathers.

I'm making more chicken run progress. I hauled the last load of wood chips into the run today, so there's maybe an 8 or 10 inch layer over the entire run floor. I just finished figuring out how I'm going to mount the door.

And to make access easier when cleaning out the run, a 4 foot wide section of the wall will be a removable panel (screened with hardware cloth). I'll be able to back my truck up to the opening and toss the chicken compost into the bed. It'll be much easier than working through a 3 foot wide doorway in the corner.

It's a lovely day in the neighborhood! I am playing hooky from the gym and going to do gardening work. I need to remove some wire cages from around young trees and tend to the veggie garden.

Might replace the straw in the coop floor. I usually just add more straw and go with a sort of deep litter, but every month or two I take it all out and put in all new straw. Have never had a problem with moisture in the straw. It is a solid coop. More like a little house for the chickens. It's 8x10 and I can easily walk into it.

We have raised perches over sandboxes. That works great and gets cleaned out every day. that is mostly where they do their business all night long. Boy, those chickens can poop a lot. :gig
