Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Oh ya! Rare sirloin and milk made me what I am today! :yesss:
Poor DH had quite a shock the first time eating my moms roast beef. She cooked it med rare and his mom always killed it dead. He had to try it out of politeness then of course he loved it thank the Lord or I couldn’t have stayed with him!

We have a friend who will overcook a prime cut using Worcestershire sauce and then eat it with ketchup! :idunno

Needless to say, if I cook her beef at our house, I make sure to pick up a cheap cut at the chain grocer, 'cuz I ain't wrecking one of our grass fed steaks!

Actually I was born in fish country but my mom said she didn’t know how to cook fish so we only had canned tuna and fish sticks! Dad was a meat cutter so we had pieces of whatever…..🤢
I find it so interesting how we never knew how to cook fish back then. I didn't either. Now I cook it all the time, as do most people. It's really not hard and there are so many good recipes. I'm not sure why we were so intimidated back then.

When i was young, I went on an overnight deep sea fishing expedition and came home with a ton of fish. I don't think we ever cooked any of it.

I think she thought it needed to be fried and she didn’t like frying. She made wonderful fried chicken but it wasn’t often!
One of my favorite ways with white fish is just a little olive oil, butter or even Mayo with some salt and pepper and just bake gently and not too long.

Part of that would be the type of the roast. Like a rib roast. That one would work excellent. Top loin as well.

Chuck and bottom round roast not so much. Too tough to chew unless braised at least. Round we always used for pot roast or I'd turn it into stew meat. Chuck can sometimes go either way depending on the animal. Mom gets them as burger or stew meat now instead of fussing with them.

I buy primals so I only get the cuts I want because I do them.

My hubby was shocked the first time he went camping with my parents. He didn't believe me when I told him we had to catch breakfast. Then Mom started handing out the poles.

Limit was 5 on brook trout which is just enough for breakfast.

That’s a good one! I remember we went on one like that when I was little. When they put a whole cooked trout (complete with eyes) on my plate I didn’t eat the rest of the trip! :gig

But the eyes popping are how you tell brook trout is cooked. You hold the head and tail and just eat it like corn. No bone issues.
