Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

This deer we have in our orchard is jumping a fence. We have bright cord and reflective tape all around the top to make it appear taller now, so we'll see if that works. She hasn't gotten into our garden. It has a fence around it too, but she could jump it. Problem is, it has raised beds and she may be afraid of getting hurt landing on that. Anyway, she hasn't been in there yet. I think it's just the one big deer doing the damage. There is plenty to eat around here, but you know what they say. The grass is always greener on the other side.
Have you considered electric fence? With your existing fence, running a single strand 18" high, 3 feet outside the fence might be all it takes. This article describes a 3D fence design that's only 24" tall. It's supposed to confuse the deer so they don't jump over it.

I ran some electric fence strands around my garden, and it seemed to repel the deer. And I never even energized it! Other people in the area have electric fences, so they know what to expect when they see the wires. I guess. LOL

Morning Bill that is a really high protein for layers.
We have like a 8 ft fence around to keep birds in others out.
Morning. My chickens don't get much feed during the day. They're eating weeds, grass and bugs. And getting a lot of exercise, too. They're dual purpose, too, so I want them to get some meat on their bones if there are any I decide to cull later on.

I just bought a different feed today. It's 19% protein all purpose, and it's small pellets. I'm tired of all the crumbles that disappear onto the floor. I think I'll get better utilization feeding them pellets.

I gave them some and they wolfed them down, so I'm glad they like them.

If any Washingtonians have a Fred Meyer nearby, rib eye steaks are on sale for a great price this week. $4.97 a pound with the digital coupon. I'm grilling a steak on the Traeger for the 4th of July!

That's a really good price for a grocery store.

Ive sworn off chicken from Winco. How can breast meat from a broiler be as tough as a year old silkie rooster.

We swore off pork chops from Winco Monday. How can pork loin chops be as tough as a year old silkie rooster?

Costco pork chops are always good. Just have to freeze some.

Usually we eat what's cheapest at the restaurant supply. Pork shoulder is $1.69 this week and I have a smoker. Beef brisket is also on sale.

I usually buy strip loin primal at Costco Business Center and cut my own strip steaks because hubby likes that cut. He can be so picky

We go to Cash and Carry they have now opened to all changed the name too.
I have bought a few hams from them high quality always.
The one we go to is about 2 blocks from Costco in Tumwater.

Oh yes. Thats where the pork shoulder and brisket are on sale at. They also are the only good source I've seen for getting alder wood pellets. I prefer alder for fish.
