Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

A few days ago someone gave me Clementine, she was running loose in the neighborhood. I would not own a meat bird, but was given her. Just this morning, I saw another one running in the neighborhood, and we stopped the car and it ran up and practically jumped into my open arms. I picked her up and took her to the same pen where Clementine is, I talked to a neighbor lady, and she said a lady who lived in our area, was not doing well mentally had just opened her coop and set them free. We have coyotes in the area, so not a good idea. My husband wants to keep them as pets. So I have 2 CC hens now, don't tell me they are meant to be eaten, I know. Anyhow the new one is named "Cleo".
Well if they are jumping into your arms what else could you do??? Your DH is a keeper too with such kindness!

We have drizzle falling something we have 64 out and 88% humidity.
Hey take them in then.
Jake is good he was in the coop last night. They are not buds but are not fighting.
I am really surprised by how nice Pete is behaving.
Excellent! I'm glad Pete is calming down. Maybe he just needs to get used to the new surroundings. It's nice getting a little rain for a change. Going to be a cooler week.

I tested my canner pressure gauge. Since I have experience working on air compressors and compressed air systems, doing the test wasn't outside of my capabilities.

I pressurized the canner up to 11 psi, and two different tire gauges showed it was actually 9 psi, so it's a couple pounds off. Probably should get a new gauge if I ever decide to pressure can anything.

But I'm more into freezing stuff. Things that I would preserve in canning jars could be water bathed anyway, like salsa, jam, maybe even some homemade ketchup. I think I'm going to have a lot of tomatoes to deal with eventually.

My canner has a vent tube with a one piece 15psi weight on it. I was thinking about getting a 3 piece weighted gauge so it could be used at 5, 10, or 15 psi. Wouldn't need to get a new dial gauge then, since I could rely on the weight for pressure regulation.

Muggy out, Jake is much smaller almost half the size.
Also very no fight in him.
When he was in Banty had the EE roo I hatched.
They bumped chests and done.
My BCM cockerel is working out fine with the ladies now that they are all his. LOL

He's starting to do rooster things, like making warning calls when he senses a threat, and letting the hens eat before he eats. And he's not wearing any of the hens out. They haven't lost any feathers yet. He'll get interested in a specific hen sometimes and chase her all around the yard, but when that happens he usually just finally gives up.

My hens have never lost their feathers to my rooster. If they have space and obstacles to get away, they an avoid. Then there are some hens who just squat for him, because, well, that's how you make babies. 🤣 Of course I'm talking about the old days. My rooster is getting old and rough around the edges. He doesn't mate much anymore at all. Poor broodies can't get an egg to hatch.

I always can my tomatoes in a pressure canner, but then I first turn them into marinara. I haven't just canned tomatoes. If I don't get a good yield, which has been the case the last few years, I will buy my tomatoes at Jeremy's.

A couple years ago I invested in a new big canner. Mine was not holding a seal well, even with a new seal. This one doesn't require a seal; it's all steel. It's a wonderful canner, but just so big and heavy. I got it at Bob's. They have every canner you can want and all the supplies.

That must be one of those cast aluminum canners with the screw down lid. Nice!
