So testing it out, since we will not have rain for the next week or so and we will be in the upper 60's today and by next week in the 90's. They are now almost 3 weeks old.

When we 1st started with chickens over 3 years ago this was our 1st coop which we discovered was way too small for 4 chickens!! we have kept it for the hospital / isolation etc.. but in actuality not being used.

What do you all think?? I know I will have to go out each night and help them go in the coop since they haven't learned that yet but it is secure. Or do you all think I should bring them in at night back to the brooder? No there is no electric out to the run. On a side note they have not been using the heat lamp for about a week now. but they have been inside our house in the mud room.

So have you built a coop? small sheds can be used too. They are all feathered, your correct no heat needed.

we purchased this little coop like 3 years ago for our 1st 4 chickens. Advertisements said it would hold between 4-6 chickens once our chickens were about 4-6 months old we knew we had to get them a new Bigger coop. So this one has just been sitting not being used.

they are not completely feathered wings, back little bit on their necks but belly's and head is still fluffy down feathers.

All those coops lie on how many hens they hold.

I have one that I use for a brooder coop. I use hens to raise the chicks normally. I have lots of silkies.

I do have a brooder plate for backup if needed. I usually have my pick of hens.

It's time to get my couple replacement layers this year. Molly is waiting in the broody coop.

I broke down this year and let my broody hens have eggs (1 hatched). I also have a small coop, a friend of mine bought it from costco to use as a catio until his cat busted out the ramp/run door! I bought it from him for $20 because at the time, we had only 1 hen left and I wanted to set her up inside where she could be with us more and not alone. She passed away before I got the door fixed though, so it sat for almost 5 years! When I was looking at "chick proofing" part of the run, I remembered I had it and pulled it out to see if it would fit into my run. After tightening screws and making some minor repairs, I put it back together in the run and moved my Hen that sat on the eggs into it. My little chicks are barely and not quite 2 weeks old and they are definetly feathering out faaster than any brooder raised chicks I've ever raised! I think it's a great idea to take them out, but if they don't have a momma hen to get under when cold, I'd give them a brooder plate that they can easily get to at any time.

I have already done this. Read this article last year and raised my chicks in the coop. Worked great!
