102 out. So much for cooler weather. I'm heading out to give the chickens some watermelon from the fridge. They love it. I'll set some down separately for Cooper, but my guess is he will shy away from it and me, then the girls will be there to gobble it up in no time.

I'm ready to cull Pippi and let Cooper become the head of the flock, but DH thinks we should let it play out as it is for a month and get through some of Cooper's hormonal stage. Plus Cooper will see how Pippi herds the flock in at night. Perhaps a learning time? Maybe he is right. It's a day by day thing right now.

It's only 100 here. LOL. I'm going out to the run in a little while and wet down their woodchips again. That seems to really help in keeping them cool. Gets a lot of breeze, too.

I sold my aged rooster at Auction I have no idea who bought him.
Make sure she lays the egg if it breaks in her that is very bad.

got the canning done, hosed the run down just a few ago, the run faces west---4pm is a real cooker time of day,, but the tall pines n the run by 7pm

I have 4 cases of Roma to process into sauce.
I was up in the banty coop frozen green beans treat. Other 5 are doing great
gave all the birds frozen green beans.

accuweather and weather channel say its 91 out but I dont think so RIGHT here,, its dropped below 90 I am sure,, the chickens are still panting but more active

We had some excitement here. There was a forest fire across the river. Not a big one, but in this dry heat it could have grown big quickly. Volunteer fire department got there and put it out. They are running chain saws now. Not sure if cutting down trees or cutting up what's on the ground. I can only hear them, not see them. Luckily the particular spot is above the beach and there is a parking lot there.

I did call 911 when it started but I wasn't the first. I was sitting on the deck when it started. Watched it grow. Well, watched the smoke grow.

I let my chickens out late tonight, around 7:30. And I gave them their first grapes, which they loved. The pullet that had the weird problem last night is a quick little girl. I would throw grapes about 30 feet and she was always the first to get it. They definitely have good eyesight.

The slow ones hung close by, and I fed them grapes by hand. And a couple thought that my toes looked like grapes, I guess. They kept nipping at them, which hurt a bit. I taught them my toes weren't edible, though. They are quick, but I was able to tap one with my foot when it tried to eat me. LOL

Still watching out for the barred owl my neighbor warned me about, that tried to grab a rabbit out of his yard. I think the risk is worth it, letting the chickens roam around the yard with possible danger overhead. I'm always with them, so maybe that makes it safer for them.
