The metal lean-to building out front is becoming infested with boxelder bugs again this year. I'm going to collect some and see if the chickens will eat them. Here are a couple of pics. That cluster is a very tiny portion of the total number of bugs.
There are thousands!

Edited to add: No, my chickens won't eat 'em. Darn.

I thought we had them because of all the trees. I see them on the trees all over. A few on the house, but not many. They come every year at this time like clockwork.

You are lucky. Nice thing, they don't stink when you smash them.

Let my chickens out to roam this evening. Shot my .22 a few times to scare the coyotes. They woke me up howling and yipping a couple nights ago so they are nearby.

Mom has them over on the dry side of the mountains even without many trees in the high desert. Brother has them in Kennewick and there were never any trees planted anywhere near where his house is. It was scrub before the houses were built.

We get them here in Graham. My chickens don't want them either.

I read up on them and learned that maple trees are one of their food sources. And I have some maple trees.

Mom was sitting outside listening to the concert tonight. She said she couldn't understand all the words but it was fairly clear. She said it's smelled like the fair since last night.

The prison should be able to hear it decently as they are about the same distance on the other side. I'll have to ask my brother what the prisoners thought about it since he works there and has several that work under him in maintenance.
