Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi, found a lost sweet chicken in Federal Way, was near the twin lakes area. Pavilion apartments near the back fence that butts up against a neighborhood from 330th off 21st Ave. Anyone lose this sweet girl? We have her safe right now but would love to get her back home. Won't let me upload a photo but she's a beautiful brown shade.

Rhode Island red is you want to keep her buy her like 2 friends.
They are very social creatures.

I moved my chicks outside into a section of the big girls' coop. There's a 1/4" hardware cloth wall separating them. They're on deep bedding of well composted woodchips, and they're finding plenty of "things" to scratch and peck for. Seem to be having a good time.

There's a ceramic heat lamp in the back corner to keep them warm when they need it. Gave them a bowl of grit and a big dandelion plant to pick at too.

One of my girls laid a huge lash egg this morning, poor thing. Must've been 6 inches long. :(

On a brighter note, the seven chicks made it through the night with the ceramic heater to keep them warm, and all of them were hungry, thirsty, healthy and active this morning. I picked a few leaves of lettuce and bok choi for them to peck on, but they're not sure whether or not it's food yet. They know enough to eat the grit I gave them.

I'm assuming they are getting chick feed all the time. That is all I give my chicks until they are well over a month old. They are just now getting a little variety.

Took the sweeter heater out yesterday, so mine just have the ceramic light too. I'm not sure they need anything at all at this point, but we are having cold nights still.

They have feed available 24/7, but are living with only natural light- no supplemental light, so they have to shut down and sleep all night long. That's the type of life they'd live if a mama hen was raising them, so I guess I'm making them get used to the real world. LOL

I'm going to leave the ceramic heater on 24/7 until they feather out more, then I'll have it on only during the night. When they feather out enough I'll remove the heat completely.

When they were inside I'd shut off their light around 8:30PM and turn it back on around 6 or 7AM.

I'm debating on taking the ceramic light out. Mine have feathered out. They are just over 6 weeks now. I'm at least going to figure out how to raise it a little. They are roosting on top of it! lol But I think when it gets cold at night they probably get under it.

Yes, dark in my coop at night too. They've been out there since they were a week old and have done fine in the dark nights.

I do keep a light on during the daytime in our coop because I think it's rather dark inside, being shaded by the forest, but it's automatic and I think is set to come on at 8am and off at 7pm. It's not a bright light. Probably don't need it at all.
