Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Mine does 10ths of a pound. And it seems that depending on how I step on the scales the result can vary. I was actually thinking about getting the weights in grams, but decided this afternoon that weighing them isn't necessary.

One of the New Hampshire pullets looks to be nearly twice the size of the smallest one, and there's another that's pretty big too. And that's good enough for me, just knowing which ones grow fastest and get larger.

I'm going to go out to the run now and sit on a chair and write down observations about the pullets. Size, personality, etc.

I sat down in the run for nearly an hour taking notes on the New Hampshires. Two are really big compared to the others. A couple are small. The others are kind of in between sizewise.

Pink/Yellow is the biggest one. Most confident and top dog I think.

Orange is the 2nd biggest. Sort of hangs out with Pink/Yellow.

Blue and Pink are the two smallest ones.

Yellow and Orange/Yellow are inbetween, sizewise. They get along with the others ok.

Blue/Yellow is the hesitant, timid one. She kind of keeps to herself. Maybe at the bottom of the pecking order. Kind of a medium size.

That's what I've noticed so far.

We've been sitting on the deck watching the wild birds. Had a pair of ducks we've never seen before float by. Referring to bird sites that list birds of Washington, I can only come up with the Canvasback. It is a rare bird so that was a lucky sighting. Can't find any other duck with a red head and white back, that is in Washington. Don't know if there is one somewhere else. Long beaks. Interesting looking duck.

I've always heard of canvasbacks but never saw one. Didn't you have a camera at the ready? LOL

Digital kitchen scale. I have one that is just for my chicken kit. They aren't too expensive. Mine does up to 15 pounds

Yes. Monster silkie

One of the rare occasions I didn't have my phone with me. :( I was so disappointed. I also wished I had the binoculars out there, but no. We had just eaten dinner on the deck and were sitting watching the river. Isn't that always when the best stuff happens???

I don't think my little chickens would stand on my digital kitchen scale. Big Bird!
2.5 pounds is supposed to be silkie male max. Ive had some really big birds.

I put a towel for chicks and tare it. Ive never had issues with them standing as long as they cant see the coop. Might just be me and my handling. I can make silkies pose, too

I use one when I have to weigh chickens as well, though it's the one I use for cooking. I stick it in a ziploc bag so it doesn't get nasty. :)

Welsummers can be LG birds. I have one that is 3yr old and I call he big bird, she is 6lbs. she is my fav! but #2 fav is the smallest, she looks like a bantam small and her feathers have always been great. I have two hens I call the beauty queens, they have zero feather issues, I tell them ,, you look to good, you must not be laying eggs!
The previous rooster was 7lbs easy

I sure wish they would get their feather growth situation straightened out.
