Just got pics of this year's fawn, eating cherries in the neighbor's yard with mama.

its a little warm out side what are you all doing to keep your chickens Cool i noticed that they were panting this afternoon went out and added ice to their water buckets. Was thinking of adding a old Box Fan in the run that's just sitting in our shed. Any thoughts????
On hotter days I put out extra water in large clay plant saucers so they can cool off by dipping their feet in it, and just so they have an easier source of water to drink from (vs. nipple waterer).

But otherwise my run is shaded in varying amounts throughout the day, and the birds are good at finding heavier shade when needed or digging down into the dirt to cool their bellies.

I finally got a little of the drip irrigation stuff I bought last year set up in one of my raised beds. I have 6 tomatoes, 5 zucchinis and my row of pickling cucumbers set up with emitters. I'll get the new garden bed that has the peppers, tomatoes and beans set up next.

I'll probably measure everything out and put it all together then have my son do the stoop work of mounting all the lines on the ground around the plants. This isn't a raised bed, and I can't bend down that far for very long without causing a lot of pain. And crawling around on my knees doesn't work very well anymore either. Sucks getting old and falling apart.

I got one decent egg from the barred rocks today. I'm getting only 3 or 4 eggs a week from them, and looking forward to the New Hampshire pullets to start laying, probably in another couple months. They're about 13 weeks old now, but the combs haven't started plumping up and turning red yet.
