Found a new treat for the chickens. My Mom lives about an mile down the road from me and she has apple trees in her back yard. well for some reason the apples are just falling off the tree they are not fully ripe yet but they are falling so I gathered them all up off the ground and brought them home for the chickens. This afternoon added about 8 apples (1 for each chicken) to the chicken run and they went crazzy!!!! who would of guessed apples AKA chicken crack apples.

I know not to give them too many I was just shocked that they ate them like it was the best thing they ever had....

I have an apple tree and tried giving the chickens some of the apples, they looked at me like I was crazy and walked away. Tried cutting them open too, it was a no go.

They do love apples. Our chickens free range in a small fenced in berry and fruit tree "orchard" when the apples fall they get them. I have been known to stand out there and feed them berries off the bushes too. They love summer!

lol I feed them wild black berries that grow along our back fence but never tried the apples before.

Mine love blackberry season, there's a line of bushes in the back where they like to forage and once the berries come in I just toss them a few, and they head for the bushes and start jumping up to pluck them.

I get that i gave some apples to my neighbor for her chickens too and her girls did the same thing!! looked at her like she was crazzy and walked away she also tried to cut them up and give them to them since she didnt want them to have the apple seeds still nothing... they all have different likes!!!

That is so cute! Ours have been known to jump up and pluck some low hanging blueberries and raspberries too.

Mine eat apples but don't go crazy for them. And I'm not going to have many this year. My apple tree seems to bear fruit heavily one year and is nearly devoid of apples the next. Last year the tree was loaded, this year I can see maybe a dozen or so.

Like it or not for the young cockerels and pullet, today is the day of total integration. I opened the coop up so all the chickens can do their thing. There's been some chasing, pecking, squawking and screaming but so be it. It's time for the little ones to learn how to take or avoid the abuse.

I'm guessing/hoping that the teenagers will eventually get the bullying out of their systems. And I'm not sure, but I think it's just a couple of them that are the main aggressors.

I went to Wa Ortho for my shoulder injury this afternoon and the PA was encouraged that she could move my arm around and it was pain free, even though it hurts when I move it under its own power. Encouraged because it's a sign that the rotator cuff isn't injured.

I got a prednisone prescription to help with inflammation, and have a follow up visit in a few weeks. I need to take it easy but it's difficult with the garden the chickens.

While the big girls were out running around the back yard I let the littles out to explore the chicken run. .they mainly stayed by their coop but they are checking things out they run out and run right back in
