Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Canned some pintos yesterday. So easy, and so nice to have my own.

I have the best stove top canner you can buy, but more and more I am turning the this electric canner. I really love it.
So let me guess, you have an All American stovetop that you use when you have 7 quarts worth to process, but if it’s only a few pints or a couple quarts the electric one is just the ticket ???? Oh wait….. that’s what I do !
When you do your pintos, how long do you cook them before putting in jars ? I just did black beans and followed the directions and cooked for 30 minutes (after soaking). I thought they were a little overcooked. Still ok but I thought about shortening that 30 minutes a bit.

That's exactly right, but my electric will can 5 quarts at a time.

I didn't follow the directions for cooking them for an hour. I did bring them to a boil for about 10 minutes. However, I have one old recipe which says not to cook them first at all. I figured the 10 minutes would just get them hot.

I use the All American when I'm making marinara. Then I have both canners going.

the littles survived the night :p though they were the 1st ones out of the door this morning when I let them all out of the coop they made a mad dash to get back to their own coop. The trick will be tonight.... where will they go.....hmmmmm back to their coop or will they be brave and try it again... :pop
