Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just got a pullet egg today that looks fertile hen is about 6 months old.- and the only rooster I have is a 3 month old NN. All other hens are laying eggs.View attachment 4196569

I had a bantam cochin who had to have been fertilizing eggs at before 7 weeks because I'd hatched silkie eggs and got cross breed chicks. He was the only non-silkie

I got another pullet egg today. After I found the pullet eggs yesterday I cleaned all the stuff out of the old nest box that I put in it to keep the little chickens from sleeping in it.

I put straw in it yesterday evening, and by this morning the chickens had scratched every bit out. But still, one of the pullets laid an egg in it today. Maybe the fake egg helped it know it was where eggs belonged. LOL

I might try putting pine shavings in it today, maybe not. Old woodchips might be less prone to being scratched out.

Saga continues the littles are now 9 weeks old last night again they all slept in one of the big coops no problems. and yes as soon as the door was open this morning they made a run for it !!!! and ran back to the little coop. The little coop is getting too little for big'ums (the cockerel)he can barely stand up in the lower part, he is gonna be a big boy!! He is already almost as big as my older girls.
Switched their feed and the big girls feed to all flock well all flock and chick feed mix. Found an all flock that was 20% protein from TS

Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles Poultry Feed) with the oyster shells and eggs shells on the side.

so think is will be okay until the littles get to 16 weeks

mine kick it all out but just started using this from TS -

Tractor Supply Extra Fine Premium Pine Shavings, 3 cu. ft. its almost like cat litter and can use a cat litter scoop to filter it out and get the poop out and leave the clean litter behind. so I'm not throwing out the good litter with the dirty litter when i clean the coop.
