Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Cookie planning today. I have cut way back on shipping cookies this year. Trying to phase out of it, but it would be a disappointment to the kids, so sending less than I usually do. It's kind of sad to lose interest in this tradition. I've been doing it for 54 years now.
thats a lot of cookies!!!

That's a great plan for the grow out coop.
I need one soon, that's for sure. The chicks aren't even 3 weeks old and they're just starting to grow feathers on the tops of their heads. Everywhere else is pretty much feathered out.

And I'm going to start hatching out another batch in a week or two, so I'll need to empty out the brooder.

Mom quit the sugar cookies that our huge extended family so much love. Those things take 3 days from mixing to make. She gave everyone the recipe last year. She can't physically roll out the dough anymore for more than a couple dozen.

She's giving a few drop cookies this year to some of the family, except I think great aunt will get some of the sugar cookies as well as one uncle. They don't like them frosted. She pays my uncle for help with those cookies.

We aren't getting cookies. Had to talk her out of it because of the sodium issue. She doesn't have the potassium bicarbonate baking powder to do it. We'll get a batch of caramels which are easier and no salt.

I tried to get her to reduce cookies for years because it was too much especially as family expanded. It's been over 40 years for her. Her hands just don't allow it anymore.

I think I'm the only other one who's ever actually made the cookies. I have my own copy of the cookbook and her adjustments plus the very old early 80s wilton buttercream frosting that works so well for them.

I am not ever letting I can make them. Just like the 70s rice crispy treat recipe she uses. She played with it and made it microwavable and softer because of that but its the butter amount that makes it taste better. I feel bad for suggesting she use food coloring about a decade ago to make the treats look like candy corn for Halloween. Now everyone expects it

There was a time when I made more than 50 dozen cookies every year, and there was one year when it was upwards of 100 dozen. So, basically, I used to give 4 or 5 dozen cookies to 10 to 15 families, and several dozen for work, stuff like that. Ah those were the days. I loved doing it.

I don't make sugar cookies but all my cookies are formed or rolled out. They are all butter based, generally without leavening or eggs, so like shortbread type cookies. But not exactly. lol

Anyway, I've been trying to change it up lately because my hands give me trouble too and my energy just isn't what it used to be. This year I will replace one cookie with baklava. That is actually much easier to make. Seriously, I think I'm only making about 20 or 25 dozen this year. Light load.

20 or 25 dozen? I think that's about how many cookies I've baked in my entire life.
