Congratulations!

I had to order a couple joist hangers and a pair of hinges for my new chicken run so no construction just yet. But I have the plan pretty much finalized in my head.

I started feeding the 4 week old chicks water soaked crumbles a few days ago. Too many dry crumbles were getting lost in the bedding. A benefit of feeding the mash is that they drink a lot less water.

The granddaughter requested lolly pops, and luckily, Home Depot has them. All will be delivered today.

Everyone have their waders ready for tomorrow?

I had to haul feed to the birds and make sure they are topped up for a couple days in case it floods too much between the pens and house
I've moved everything smaller/lighter away from the edge of the creek, in case of flooding. Topped off water and feed. Better to do it now while it's just drizzling on and off, than to have to run out into heavy rain and squishy conditions to move it later.

We are on higher ground so we don't experience a lot of flooding, but there will be puddles. It will be a wet week. I expect 3" at our place. The river is really full now and running like a torrent. I imagine they've been letting water out of the dam in preparation.

The pond isn't full so it's the pooling in the low spots that will cause us issues. If it quits raining for a few hours that will start draining. Even the worst flooding we had only got to 10 feet of the pens and that was heavy rain on top of a foot of snow. Ground was too cold to drain well that way so it had to flow to the streams the pond.

Our road will flood some. It always does. They need to clean the stream culvert under the road. It's blocked on the other side some. Clear on my side. I check it in the summers

Not sure how much rain fell here today since I slept in for a change. My son and I got the base boards set into position for the new chicken run yesterday, the hardest part of the job. Mainly because I have a hard time working in the bent over position these days.

All nine of the eggs in the incubator are growing inside, so I'll probably have 9 more chickies in a couple of weeks. @pennyJo1960 I'm keeping all of this batch but I'll hatch out a batch of eggs for you in January if you still want some babies. They'll be straight run, so let me know how many to hatch.

Well, there will be puddles in the free range area that the chickens like to go into, and they will most certainly be out there going out of their way to pad through the puddles, as usual. But there will be no water inside the run or coop so they always have a place to go. They would be so unhappy if we still didn't let them go out and explore the greater area. Some people have mentioned that they could get worms in those puddles, but it hasn't happened in 9 years, so I'm not overly concerned. There are plenty of dry areas, even out there, for them to be and it is so much more entertainment and activity for them.

All I can say is, I feel your pain.
