Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yeah, I noticed that too re: comb.

I just-in-case dosed with Corid for hers and the coop waterer, 3/4 tsp powder to a gallon. I assume it wouldn’t hurt them. She had a few weird looking stools. I’ll keep an eye on her and the others and do a 5 day course, but when I checked on her before I put kids to bed she was much more alert and chatty, and had eaten some of her crumble.
If you are concerned about coccidiosis, you will need to treat again in a week or two. I can't really remember the routine exactly, but if you were to do a search for it on BYC you would get the directions.

No it won't hurt them to treat them with Corid. You might have to toss the eggs -- another thing to research here. It has been years since I had a concern about that.

It’s 5 days at a full dose followed by another 7 at a tapered dose. Corid is a thiamine blocker and not an antibiotic so there is no egg withdrawal period.

@TeePants , I thought blood in the stools was the sign of coccidiosis, but I might be wrong.

Maybe she's just stressed out from the change in her environment, being alone in a bathtub. I know stress can give me digestive issues.

I did see a small amount of blood in the stool, but it could have also been shed intestinal lining. I’ll be keeping an eye on her today and if she’s really perky I may not continue the Corid. I’m just worried as the new hen could have been an exposure point for the flock, and they all seem to enjoy kicking bedding into the cup waterer we use; I swear it’s dirty within a few minutes of cleaning! I may have to raise the bar we have their food and water mounted on if they keep that up.

I keep thinking about switching to a nipple water system but I just haven’t had time to figure out the logistics to do so.
