Making rice medium grain found in my cupboard.
Add beef and veggies egg and they can have a scoop of what I made to that.

That is a great way to supplement the Purina. I think at least Purina may have some vitamins in it. We do find that we save a lot of money by making Ruby's dog food. The cans are so expensive. But we did find out we cannot add egg. She gets itchy if she eats egg. Allergy?

Corn is #1 in their food goes right out bigger turds also.
I have used three or four foods so no one has loose turds.
They have never had corn in their food.

I moved the two chicks (6 weeks old maybe???) into the run with the old hens. They're in a rabbit cage inside the run so they can all get used to each other before being totally integrated.

I moved the RIR hen in the run with the NH hens yesterday. They all knew each other in the past so there weren't any problems when I put them together. Five eggs today from the six hennys.

Our pug cracked a molar on those yak chews. They’re no joke. We do the Nylabone style rubbery chews now and that seems to have worked better.

I just watched a pair of very pretty looking roof rats climb out of a tunnel under my chicken coop to forage in my yard.

The underside of the coop is fully enclosed in hardware cloth, so I know they can’t get in. I spilled a bit of feed yesterday in the yard when I dumped their feeder so I could bring it inside to do a deep clean.

They can’t get into the coop, but they won’t leave. We store chicken food in a steel pail with a locking lid inside the run (which again, is fully enclosed top to bottom in hardware cloth) and we use a feeder with the PVC pipes the hens stick their heads in to eat to reduce mess.

I’m worried that even if I manage to trap these, we will just get more. We live in West Seattle, and we have a green belt right behind the house. That being said, I am going to the hardware store to get traps and I’m going to fill their stupid holes in with gravel.

I had rats and mice tunneling to get in my coop, until I got treadle feeders. No more rats coming in.

Anyone know how long the pickled green beans lasts in the fridge? I just ate one out of a jar I made last summer and it is still crunchy. I didn't get sick yet, so I'm guessing they are still good. What is your experience?

Quite a long time. My fridge pickle chips last for a couple years. As long as they taste good. I threw out some canned pickled asparagus that became mushy and did not taste good.

Sidelined for now. Had a ganglion cyst removed testerday, and now waiting in urgent care for checking shoulder pain on the left from gardening too hard on Sunday. At least the beds are weeded and raspberries transplanted.

The chickens finally decided they'd eat the lemon balm leaves and cleaned them off the clumps I gave them yesterday. Weeded the garlic, and got 6 eggs from the six laying hens today. Good girls!

The RIRxNH pullets should start laying any time now. The combs and wattles on most of them are getting big and red.

The lettuce and kale seeds have begun to germinate out in the garden. But no onions seeds have sprouted yet.

DH says my tomatoes and herbs have begun to sprout. I haven't been out there. I'm doing a rare sewing job. I really hate to sew but we came up with a great bed design for our arthritic old dog so now I have to make some covers for it. Plural because we are actually making two. One for the living room and one for the bedroom. Yep Spoiled dog. But she has been a good dog for many years, so she is worth it.
