Haha, I have to laugh. The day I spend here moaning and complaining that my girls aren't laying enough eggs, all 8 of 8 confirmed layers gave me an egg today! And one of them was HUGE double yolker! LOL Maybe they know I'm frustrated I do still wonder why 2 of the ones who were laying from late summer on, stopped laying completely Sad.

Are green beans poisonous to chickens? I'm finding mixed responses.

Tonight I gave a bunch of the kid's leftovers to the big girls. They pigged out on all of it, but left what looked like most, or all, of the cooked green beans in the bowl. I though that was odd. So, I came in and looked it up. Some people say green beans are poisonous to chickens. Are they?

What my girls may have eaten a little bit of today were cooked green beans...

I am not sure. I do know that mine get a few of them at times in the "leftovers" bucket.And I have noticed no problem.

I feed cooked green bean leftovers to my chickens without problems. You do want to avoid raw beans (raw peas are OK) such as kidney beans, black beans, and thus I'd assume also green beans raw. I feed raw Austrian peas and split peas, but never raw beans.

So I just packed another little box of eggs to give away. I almost washed them because of the conversation that happened last time I posted about it. I don't sell eggs, so I am not bound by any regulation to wash eggs.

I think I'm going to stick with my current practice of putting eggs in their ceramic egg holder that is inside a closed egg bin in my refrigerator. We wash all our eggs just before we crack them.

My girls don't poop in their nest boxes, their coop is scooped every day and the bedding is nearly always fresh looking inside the coop before they lay each day, so I'm hoping we won't have a problem because I don't wash them right after they are laid. I get eggs that look perfectly clean from my nest boxes. Yes, I understand that microscopic stuff may exist, and that is why we wash them prior to use.

Eggs I give away are being given away in clean plastic containers and I tell the recipient these are not washed, so please wash them before cracking them. My little tag also explains they are not washed, the bloom is still on and they should be washed before using.

This article says to wash the eggs in 90 degree water. I thought you were suppose to wash them in Cold water

I only wash eggs that are a bit dirty. they all go right into the fridge

i have 16 chickens and potentially 13 or 14 of them are laying. I should not have only 2 eggs today. Maybe its the weather going from cloudy to sunny to raining in a matter of 20 minutes but i have no clue lol.

We have nine potential layers but only get about two to four eggs a day right now. My Belgians are molting right now; only one is laying. Three of my four young ones from this spring are laying. The fourth one has barely developed her comb and wattles. She's the same age as the others and was raised the same. Even though she's not showing signs of laying any time soon, I love her dearly and will continue to enjoy her presence. If your girls are not molting, maybe they're going to start soon and are just taking their time? They could just be shutting down for the season. Maybe an evil wizard is in the area.
