Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

itsren that is a very nice and touching story. THAT IS TRUE SPORTSMANSHIP ! ! ! ! As I said before it is NOT ALL ABOUT THE WIN ! ! ! !
When I was a kid I was invited by a neighbor to play little league. Now this was before T ball. I had to start with dads antique glove that was literally an overstuffed glove that had a leather lace between the fingers and thumb. I talked mom and dad into a new glove. I couldn't get the one I really wanted because it cost $12 so I made do with the cheap one it still cost $8. I still have that glove. I rode my bike 5 miles to practice / games. I worked hard and became a pitcher. Some coaches didn't want to play us if I was pitching. But because I had no support from home I soon got discouraged. Then in 7th grade I tried football. While I went to all practice and tried hard I wasn't too good at football. To make matters better there was no support at home. I heard that mom was in the stands for part of one game but don't know for sure.
While I am not a big sports fan. I do believe that if a child tries hard and does their best that is all that can be ask or expected. While winning is nice I also believe that EVERYBODY who puts forth their best effort deserves their fair share of time in play!
I have seen too many times where there is some star player who may not even show up at all practices but they get full play time. And then there is the one who may not have the same level of skills but they are there EVERYDAY and DO THEIR BEST. I believe they also deserve a fair share of play time. See while I am a very competitive person I am also about fairness and support. I believe the lessons of good sportsmanship are far more important than how to properly carry that trophy.
Win or not walk away with your head held high knowing that you have put forth your best effort.

Interesting plant blog...for those who love odd plants

http://dangergarden.blogspot.com/2011/03/2011-nwfg-show.html

My daughter sent it to me, she is a sedum/succulent lover, especially the "matchstick bassica" or some such plant, that only blooms once a wildfire goes through & is native to Australia.
How wonderful to have such a plant....NOT.
What would you do ?
Torch it every so often to see it bloom ?

BTW, prego daughter says so far, it looks like a girl, and she is thinking of the name "Lillith"
But cannot think of a middle name....Lillith has too many lispessss in it for me.
I like the name "Delaynie" ....no lisp-espesssssssssss there.

I just posted in the new members section and was told to come here too.

Briefly: new to having chickens (new to country life for that matter). Bought a house near Yacolt, WA in July. Loving it! Learning how to care for the chickens we inherited with the property. Hoping to learn lots more on these forums. Slightly overwhelmed too. :)
