to all the new peeps.
What a fast moving forum. Don't worry, jump right in the water is fine.
Need answers, ask and believe me you will get answers and discussions.

gloomy day, bah, humbug. Girls are out and about and happyly looking for treats that creep and crawl.

Anyone interested in any 8 week old EE cockerels? The mothers all laid blue eggs. The father is half EE, half silkie and non agressive. He's very not into being touched, but will take food from me. The chicks are still flighty, but come up for food. They were broody raised in with the silkies.

They will probably go to sale or freezer when they get older. I'm not in a huge rush to get rid of them. They will probably be brown or red with black tails. I'll try and get some picks of them later. It's to dark under their tarp to take decent pics with the phone. So I need to wait for a break in the rain and take out the camera.

Tandoori and Jerk are both around 6 weeks old, I think. Tandoori keeps sparring with Jerk, even though he/she is only 2/3 the size. Last night I saw her jump up and take a swing with her feet. Is this normal pullet behavior, or do I have two cockerels sparring? They both have little spur nubs.

I think what you are describing is normal behavior. All my birds have spur nubs

One of the best thing about Hamburgs is that they are darling little silver babies with a metallic sheen and never go through an ugly adolescence: they look very different at two weeks, three weeks, four weeks (when it's easy to determine gender) and then about five weeks they start looking like little adults, only darker, and from that point on they just get prettier and prettier.

I should put up the baby pictures from last spring, although... not today. I had two strong, healthy, young adults helping me yesterday, and I never did learn not to try to keep up with those people.

What? No "So ugly, they're cute" stage? Seriously. Didn't know that was even possible. Pictures please!

We're picking up a chicken tractor tomorrow. It's sitting in some pretty thick poo. We're trying to figure out the best way to clean it. DH said we could take it to a car wash and wash it off there, first, before bringing it home. Then I was thinking about setting it up in a gravel driveway and scrubbing it with bleach water before it even gets into the backyard with our birds. Does that sound like a good idea? Or does anyone else have other recommendations for preventing our accidentally bringing in something that could cause our flock to get sick?
