Meyer Hatchery is having a special - free shipping on White Broilers due to the Hurricane. I wonder how upset my husband would be if 25 chicks arrived at our door?

"We still have a number of White Broilers available for arrival this week because of a large cancellation due to Hurricane Sandy. We're offering free shipping to anyone who orders 25 or more. We're thinking of everyone in her path. Stay safe out there!"

I'm sorry that I started this whole debate. I'm just sick of all of the election stuff since it's been crammed down our throats for months and I get annoyed when someone posts something that I believe is political. If it's not, then it should win an award for the resemblance. I know that this is a social board and not just about pure chicken talk and I completely accept that. If someone wants to post something political or something that is likely to be viewed as political by others on the board, I just think it would be nice to post a link as was suggested earlier. I'm sorry that I ruffled so many feathers and hope that we can just drop the issue and be a bit more careful in the future.

One thing really upsetting, is the foreclosed homes.
They are everywhere..people forced into foreclosure and leave these empty homes to rot.
The property next door to us is just such...and has been vandalized to the point where not much is left.
Supposibly the bank (Chase) owns it, but they do nothing to care for it.
I think it would have been wiser to work with the owners to help them keep the property, instead of forcing them out only to have the home trashed.
How stoooooopid is that ?
Stoooopid and sad !

That really upsets me. The rotting homes devalue the properties around them.

A lot of people got in way over their heads. Not everyone was taxed out of their homes - many took out adjustable rate mortgages without really thinking through the ramifications of an adjustable rate. I made that mistake once - never again! I was young, single and excited to buy my first place. Big-time newbie mistake! Fortunately, I sold my condo before the rates became too far out of hand for me.

I was happy to hear that our Mayor started a Wall of Shame in an attempt to get banks to clean up the homes. There were many news stories about it... Google "City of Auburn Wall of Shame".

Here's the wall of shame: http://www.auburnwa.gov/asp/abandons/

Sadly - one of those houses is down the road from us. The interior burned. Turns out no one lived there, it was completely filled with pot plants, something went wrong with the growing lights and caught the house on fire. We had absolutely no idea there was a pot house in the neighborhood. When the house burned, the smell was very strong. I have a feeling that house will remain on the Wall of Shame for a very long time. I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy it.

How long do broilers have to stay under lights? That would be tricky in this weather.

Does anyone here work in Wildlife Conservation? It could be as a wildlife researcher, wildlife manager or wildlife educator. If so, would you be willing to talk with my Bear Cub Scout den about Wildlife conservation? We meet on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m. We would clarify with you which church we are meeting on the date you would come to speak - we meet in three different churches base on availability.

Warning - my Den tends to be a little squirrel-ly. I can't think of anything crazier than a room of 8-year-old boys.

Greg: I added those website links you shared onto the resources section of our Pack blog. Thanks again. I'm sure I and the other leaders will refer to them often.

Taxes and hardships; On the other hand, here in Thurston Co. (not the finest place to live) I have found that because of my fixed income I applied for and got a substantial reduction in my taxes.
A few years ago I did the "reverse mortgage", I can tell you it was the best decision I made in a long time.
These two things have allowed me to stay in my home til they carry me out in a box.

I am now tired of this wet stuff. I'm ready for some sunshine again. Enough already!
