Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We have lights on all year round on our deck. The deck has plexiglass roof, and we have a heater, so we can sit outside with all the lights on in mid winter and it's very festive. They are on a timer and go on at dusk and off around 9:30 (unless we turn them on/off at other times).

It's not so mad to want lights on at other than holiday times, and so who gives a toss what the neighbour's think - go for it!
Quote: My BiL used to have the little Christams lights in a tree by the door. They were wired to a motion sensor. They made a charming porch light.

I feel a lot like this is something we need to talk about in person. It's something with which I've got too much experience to talk about, atm

Well I'm really behind and don't have time to read everything, so if this topic is out-of-date please forgive me.

My DH and I got married when our kids were out of high school so it's a big mixture of re-married parents. We all live in the Seattle-Enumclaw-Kitsap region which is relatively convenient, but there are SO many parents/grandparents and extended family and friends that holidays are a real tangle and tug 'o war. DH and I came up with an idea that has worked really well for Thanksgiving. When he and I were both still working, getting ready for a big family meal on Thurs. was such a tall order. All our kids were still fairly young (early 20s) and thus not at the stage where they would jump in and help, so it fell mostly on me, ugh. So we moved Thanksgiving to Saturday!!! As it turns out they all really appreciated it and well all love Thanksgiving Saturday! We get to see them every year, no competition with the other families, and I have plenty of time to prepare.

I know this doesn't work for all the holidays or families spread far apart, but I thought I'd share it in case it sparked an idea for someone else.

BTW -- Happy Halloween to Everyone!

Check with your city for stuff like that - our Mayor told us we are to report all violations by calling 911 and requesting the city police department. If we don't request the city - dispatch might send county. Every incident in our city is a 911 call - even suspicious salesman. There's a huge problem with salesmen stopping by houses, then burglarizing them if no one answers the door. We were told to ask to see a permit, and if the salesman doesn't have one, call 911 and ask for city police.

hmm I thought that was for "emergency"s only?? Think of how the 911 system gets bogged down with calls that could be handled differently? just wondering, but thanks for the info
When I called the non emergency # in Seattle, I found out it's the same place as 911, but emergency calls get answered first.

I have talked to the Allergy Clinic..thinking the appt would be this week, right ?
Wrong.
They are booked until December 12th...and that for exams, then another date for the actual tests.
I am upset about the time due to the fact that it may go over until January, so that means I have to pay the deductible all over again ....
rant.gif

If I get the testing done before the end of the year it will cost me little.

So...anyways, I am available any day for a get together except Wed & Fridays...unless the bank calls to sign papers.
So...wanna make a date or cancel ?
Okay then - since this week is halfway over - want to come out next Tuesday - Nov 6th? I know it's vote day, but I have physical therapy on Mon. Weds, Fri. (Thursday would work too!)

I know what you mean about the deductible - it's why I got my surgery scheduled early. Hope you manage to get your tests in time.

They need to sit for a bit so the rigor mortis passes anyway. I can tell you that roo stock and gravy are very, very tasty!
Unfortunately I had no room in the fridge and had to put them straight into the freezer. I was told this might make them tough. Well, the little guys were tough to begin with, so we'll see. I stew all my chicken anyhow and if nothing else I bet they will make just about the best chicken stock on the planet. Gravy would be quite the topper.

Wow, the Okananananananangan, eh? Yeah, I've heard of it, lol!
I have family that way, but yikes! What a drive for a family that has sworn off roadtrips unless there is a beach involved, hehe!! Those Red Shouldered Yokohama's lay pretty colored eggs I guess, and I wanted a HUGE variety, I think I did well! Now the trick is to get them in my yard and not eat each other! That's my job

(yes, I have that same smile on my face!)

You have family in the Okanogan? Long timers or newbies? RareFeathers is closer to Okanogan and Malott. There's another woman up there too but I can't remember her name right now. I hail from Tonasket originally -- about a million years ago -- and still have family around there too. You're going to have a beautiful flock!

I use it with my laptop.
I don't have net on my phone.
For those that do I'd imagine it would work.
Basically it's just like taking sticky notes and placing them on your start up screen without the paper.
Chrome has quite a few of those apps but I like that version.
Sure helps remembering events or anything you need.
You can move them, re-size them.

For anyone that doesn't already know... Sticky Notes is included with Windows7 so you don't have to use Chrome unless you want to.

I for one can say I love that this thread involves other topics besides chickens. And I am a big contributor, even though associated with the 'club' often. I love my chickens and everyone elses but do get bored. There is so much more to life! LOL I do tire of long posts though. I can get about a third of the way and quit. I guess I don't have the patience.

Here is a story I wanted to share with you!

DH has always lived in the city. I have been trying to convince him for years that we need to just high-tail it to BFE and live without the craziness (i.e. drunk truck drivers) not to mention Hilltop Tacoma has never been my dream spot.

Half of me came from a family that lived for open air and potato farmin' - it's in my blood! Little did I know that all it took to convince DH, was my DAD! They had one beer and by the time I interrupted that conversation - DH finally lit up like a light bulb! It was the best look I have ever seen! He realized we were working for nothing. How all of our money goes to pay for gas just to make enough to pay a few bills. A few bills we wouldn't have to have!!!

I'm excited that our property search can expand now to the far reaches and I don't have to be tied to a city!! YAY!

Marital bliss right here! Can you imagine how many chickens I could have!!
Guys need to think that:

1) The idea was theirs in the first place, even if it was originally your idea. Or, if that is not possible,

2) The idea comes from another guy. Maybe it's because men speak in a different *frequency* than women? Perhaps half of what we say doesn't physically register with them due to some insane biological tweak? Are they like Muggles who just refuse to see Magic happening right in front of their faces because it would violate every law of reality they've been taught? Who knows. All I know is that, barring a guy's (ahem!) "original" thought, men need to hear it from men.
