Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Ugh, my extra roosters (please ignore the junk as we are STILL working on some clean-up)..

Hatchery Cochin

Hatchery Welsummer

and these, I was informed, are Bev Davis/Wade Jeane (hope I spelled that right) line Black Copper Marans

I suspected the one with a bunch of copper but was pretty bummed when the really dark one started crowing! All the boys were being pretty "randy" today so I guess it's Craigslist time again! Poor girls!!!!

Does this sound like "broody" might be in my future? Do I need to get my broody cage built sooner, rather than later?

Yesterday Rhodie laid an egg in the nest box. I took it out. Rhodie went back and laid in the nest yesterday evening even though there was nothing in it. She was there last night, too - but she does come out. I just went out there to check on the girls, and Rhodie was in the box - sitting on an egg. I took the egg, popped it in my pocket, and put Rhodie up on the roost. She hopped back down and started walking toward the nest box.

If this behavior came from Drama, I'd be expecting it. I've read Brahmas tend to be broody. But Rhodie? She's my only layer right now. I don't want her to go broody!
My guess would be yes!!!!

Thank you all for your help. Having a rough dimension is a big help as are all the answers and ideas. I feel much more comfortable now and I've been able to move along to other parts of the equation. I think DH and I have some pretty good ideas now! The hard part is waiting for weather good enough to act on them! He seemed anxious to get started with the prep work. And while I was laying in bed before dawn this morning, unable to sleep, I came up with a couple real dillies! I just love those quiet pre-dawn hours when I'm able to solve most all of the world problems!!

We found a very nice chicken tractor with attached small coop on Craig's List for $100. Granted, it had to be cleaned up a lot, but it is in great shape. We couldn't have purchased the supplies to build it for the amount we paid for it. Craig's List is a great resource.

I've been glued to Craigslist lately. Wish I was still on the E side of the Sound, there are just so many more possibilities over there... or so it seems.

SCORED! I found a folding dog kennel in really good condition on CL today for only $20 36" x 22" . Step one, quarantine cage...check!

That is exactly what my BR "Whitie" has done(they are supposed to go broody seldom, I expected my first to be a BO, not a BR). Spent an entire day in the nest(the popular one, so others came in and laid eggs). I took her out 3 times and within 5 minutes she went back. She has now been on the nest(with a fake egg) for 3 nights and 4 days now. So I am getting 2-3 silkie eggs from Marge Best today and also putting one each of my 3 breeds and going to let her hatch them out. Will be setting the eggs under her later this afternoon. The Silkie eggs are a surprise for my DW. She fell in love with them at the fair.

Hi peeps !
Busy with contractors and stuff..................
They seem to be able to smell the upcoming moolah LOL !!!
But I wanted to post this, I get my Coreid on line and they have these recommendations for dosage you can write down for future reference...note: I use 1/4 tsp per gallon and have never had an issue.
They recommend 1/2 tsp per gallon, and 1 tsp per gallon for treatment.
So if you actually see bloody poop, you can use the 1/2 tsp per gallon treatment amount.

OK back to work for me>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bye peeps !!!!!!!!!!!!
