This is a good question! Especially considering the fact that I lost a 9ish week old last night to what I'm pretty sure was the cold! There was no signs at all of a predator, just a dead chick. This is the 3rd one I've lost in 2 weeks. I don't know what's going on. Everybody looks fine, is eating, drinking, chirping, active, clean, dry...just all of a sudden, dead. Anyone else have chicks close to this age outside full time yet? Or is it to soon, to cold, to young?

OmG!!
So, there is NO way I'm gonna catch up on all the talk on here!! Jeez!
So, just a little catch up here, for those of you following the continuing hip saga. I was in Seattle this past Monday at the Seattle VA for an Orthopedic consult, and as I had suspected they want to do a total hip replacement! So, they have scheduled me for Aug 28,2013. Yes I know it's a long time from now, yes I know a whole lot of pain to endure to get there. BUT, after speaking to the nurses and the head of surgery there, they do more hip replacements then I first thought! I mean lots!! They also do surgery for Uof W and Harborview. And I really don't have the 6 or more thousand dollars it may take to pay my half of the 20% of my copay. So, there it is!
We did however take my dads old truck up to CLs so Einstein can rebuild or replace what he can and make good use of it. We also visited a short time with CR and Diane, and they were very kind and made dinner for us! Terry and I want to express our appreciation to both couples for their hospitality and generosity!

It was a long trip but we got a lot done.
I hope everyone is staying warm and dry, and your flocks are all doing well! Sorry I couldn't go back over the posts, just don't have the patience! LOL!! so if I missed something I apologize!
other than that, all the critters were still here and still alive so, yea, still got lots of ducks, if any one needs some!! LOl!

I got my egg skelter today ;)

That's awesome!!! Where did you find that? I love the dark brown eggs you have!

I used to have no opinion on hawks or other predators, but since I've owned chickens and have lost several over the years to predators, I hate them. I didn't appreciate roosters for the longest time until one was saving my girls from hawks. That being said, I'll always have a rooster and a shotgun for chicken defense purposes!

Shotgun & a shovel is what ya need !!!

If it were me, I would bring paper soft paper, like toilet paper and wrap the eggs and put them in the camping egg container. And then put the egg container into another box or some sort of protective container.

Sorry, I remember having kids that age that get into everything and then usually brake or damage something. OH! My bad! They still do!

I transport hatching eggs in a carton, and nestle the carton in a bed of fresh shavings, in an ice chest...with a blue freezy to keep them cool.
The shavings prevent alot of vibrations that can harm the eggs....

Humility is perfect quietness of heart.
It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me.
It is to be at rest when nobody praises me and when I am blamed and despised.
It is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in and shut the door, kneel to my Father in secret and am at peace,
As in a deep sea of calmness when all around and above is trouble. Andrew Murray

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that makes me feel very calm & happy..........................

You are so very welcome. And thank you so much for the delivery of goodies from you and from CL.
CR did you get the Wallflowers planted ?
They love southern exposure, and great against a wall like your barn.....plant them about 4 feet apart (at least) cuz they get big....may need a shovel of compost mulched over the ground in spring.
They bloom non stop spring to late fall, an early treat for your beeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzz.
