My sister & BiL just bought a home to retire in, in Bend OR.
Last night she sent a text that it was snowing big time there.
I heard on the news Bend was maybe getting up to 10"....hope she has her car's snow boots on !!!

Time to start looking into getting the studs on~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was 34 degrees & super foggy here this morning...fog boiling off the river makes the road very icy.......

We finally brought in most of the hanging baskets, of geraniums and begonias last night, because of the cold temperatures. I need to get outside today, and start potting up the rest of the geraniums that are on the back patio. I have managed to winter over the geraniums for nearly 4 years now. I am going to give it another go on trying to get cuttings to root for me. I haven't had any success with that, but the plants have been no problem to get through the winter in the greenhouse.

I miss my weather station, it was taken down in the kitchen remodel and hasn't been put back up yet. This just reminded me that one of the doorbells, needs to be found and reinstalled. I had completely forgotten about the doorbell. Maybe I will just make a sign above my ships bell. It seems like nobody ever figures out that they can give the bell a big rattle and it can be heard in the house, better than the original doorbell. The original doorbell was installed in the back of the house near the bedrooms. It can't be heard in the main part of the house. So I installed a wireless doorbell a few years ago, but I find that it is very annoying. I would rather hear my ships bell if someone is at my door.


Well in the time it took for me to get the weather station reinstalled. Because the original cable had been installed long before the furnace, and a floor to ceiling shelf unit, we couldn't get to the old cable. So we had to look at what type of cable it needed, and I was scared that given how long we have owned this weather station, that the cable would be hard to replace. Well it turned out to be an ethernet cable, and we have at least 3 or more in a draw. So we able to simply run a new cable, and the weather station is back to working.

I am certain that when we were given the weather station slightly more than twenty years ago, that neither DH or I would have known what an ethernet cable was, let alone owned one. It is amazing how much we take for granted, given how many new things are now in our lives.

So now I really need to go get the plants in, so I will catch up after dark. lol

You are welcome...but that said, you still need to keep sticky fingers out of the ice chest !!!

JB, I asked her yesterday when I called her, she will be at the show. She did say that she may not go anymore though, said it is getting harder and harder with age. But she is a hoot on the phone.
I have 8.5 week olds in the grow-out tractor. The only protection from wind is the tarp over it to keep it dry. I do have a brooder lamp on a large lag screw and has the 150W bulb. Keeps the roost bar that it is over at about 40-50 degrees. I am weening them off in by 30 minutes a day. They have been in it for 3 weeks now. By next week they should be off the light completely.
On the drive back from Lakewood around 4 am Friday morning in CR's neighborhood it was 30 according to tractor's outside temp gauge and the fog was crystalising on the highway edge. Gotta love that freezing fog.

Exactly !!! Freezes and sticks to everything !
Time to get the vaseline out & coat the rubber weatherstripping on the car doors....and WD-40 the locks......and what else am I forgetting ????????????

Studs, chains in the cars...a hunk of 3 tab roofing in case ya get stuck...a hunk of carpet (also in case ya get stuck)....OK now I can dig out that big heavy sack of rock salt...probably a solid brick (happens every year).................got styrofoam covers for the hose faucets (Chookies love to eat them !!!)

I just went over the Thanksgiving menu pot luck with my family...I get to do a fruit salad & green beans with bacon and mashed taters...sister is doing the bird (cutting off a thigh to cook seperate for me) then stuffing & cooking the one legged bird for the rest of the family...Mom is doing sweet meats squash...mashed with butter (like mashed taters YUM!!!) instead of sweet potatoes...I am making a smoked salmon BALL...salmon, cream cheese & roll in walnuts.....we have yet to decide the DEE ZERT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It is winter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Questions about the upcoming show next weekend...

1. Can anyone bring any bird to the show to sell or rehome? Or are they show birds only? Members only?

2. If you can bring any bird, are there specific guidelines you have to follow? Vaccinations? Anything?

3. Anyone want a Bantam English Game Roo? Under a yr., very handsome but needs to be the only roo and I don't have the ability right now to have multiple set ups. Everyone here is all in the same critter house.

I think so... not exactly sure. Maybe I should just address the issue of covering up the slatted boards first and see if Caunnie and Rhodie will go back to sleeping on the roost instead of the nest boxes. It's not that big of a deal that they sleep in there - but I'm not particularly fond of poop in my nest boxes. That hasn't been a problem at all before - now they're pooping in them while they sleep in them. I don't think they are broody because the only go in there in the evening. They're out and about during the day. Caunnie's not laying any more anyway. And they flap their wings when they're running around, so I don't think anyone is hiding anything under their wings.

I know that you have to buy a sale table or if you are attending the show and have chickens already sold, you can exchange them there. But I don't know if just anyone can bring birds to sell. I don't think so.

Anyone can buy a sale cage, it is usually appropriate to do so before hand, but they have been known to accomodate late or last minute sales if they have the room...ask at the show table, otherwise some folks pull out the tail gate & place a sign on the crate right in the parking lot (have your cell phone handy & on vibrate so buyers can call you) it is LOUD inside !!!!!!!!!!!!!

HMMM, why isn't Caunnie laying. My Whitie stopped laying 3 days then went broody.

You just remeinded me I have Fuschias outside that need to be put in the green house.
I have over wintered them 2 years in a row that way....gotta go myself !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
