This is a good question! Especially considering the fact that I lost a 9ish week old last night to what I'm pretty sure was the cold! There was no signs at all of a predator, just a dead chick. This is the 3rd one I've lost in 2 weeks. I don't know what's going on. Everybody looks fine, is eating, drinking, chirping, active, clean, dry...just all of a sudden, dead. Anyone else have chicks close to this age outside full time yet? Or is it to soon, to cold, to young?
I have 9 week old out. They have a little coop for night but no heat no lights. They seem to be doing fine!!!
I have 8.5 week olds in the grow-out tractor. The only protection from wind is the tarp over it to keep it dry. I do have a brooder lamp on a large lag screw and has the 150W bulb. Keeps the roost bar that it is over at about 40-50 degrees. I am weening them off in by 30 minutes a day. They have been in it for 3 weeks now. By next week they should be off the light completely.
Ok, good to know. Thanks for responding!!
