Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Already there! Just be careful and consult your Dr. I'm currently taking 20,000iu D3 daily but will decrease it after a couple weeks to 15,000iu. D is fat soluble not water soluble so it can build up and affect your kidneys/liver. My chickens are getting a nice high dose twice a week too, and they're still laying fabulously!

What else do y'all take for overall health? I'm a bit proponent of supplements and correct eating for well-being, just wondering what others swear by?
It's time for me to start up the D again too. I take a multi, Super B Complex and am trying out high doses of Niacin (B3) to see how it works against depression. The flushing is a bit annoying but I read the "non-flushing" form is not as effective.
As far as eating, I'm trying to get into the "Paleo" mindset. Although, I am researching goats and would like to try fresh goat milk as it seems it's more tolerable for our systems. Is it you, Jess, who are doing Paleo? What made you try it (if it is you, that is!)?

At this point the only thing I am taking besides the prescription drugs, is the Vitamin D. The D has been the only supplement that I have ever been certain about making any difference. I thought for years that I had seasonal depression issues, and blamed a lot of that on the time of year when my daughter died. After taking fairly high doses of D, I found that I don't have the same problems. The rheumatologist also mentioned the need for extra D.

I don't mind taking a supplement, but they have to make some kind of difference. So far I haven't found any that have made enough difference too justify the costs. I do try to eat healthy things, but I also try not to eat very much when I am by myself.

I'm just so fed up with Rx drugs. It just seems like there are hundreds of thousands of people who die each year from CORRECT use of them, whereas, I have not heard of anyone dying from vitamins. I understand you have to be cautious about taking too much of some things, but it's worth a try to get better thru food and supplements. That being said, I don't believe all the claims "natural" companies tote, but I truly feel pharmaceutical companies don't have our best interests at heart. There is no money in healthy people!

I agree with you there. Just based on their advertising budgets, I'd say that Big Pharm wants people to be ill so they can buy moire pills. I think the AMA is complicit as well.

What we really need is a cure for hypochondria. My placebos aren't working.

It was the side that hit me too, exactly like you described. Haha. I could even see the skin that was left on the pounder. I wish mine was the lighter one(20lbs). The doctor cleaned out my wound and said "well I can see that you skull is not fractured". He could see all the way to bone. My DW is taking pics the whole time and laughing.

Ok, I think I'll pass on ever using a post pounder. Or if I have to, I'll wear a helmet. LOL

I had to finish the fence with 8 more posts to pound, I did wear a helmet for those. Mostly because it was the next day and really did not want to go back to urgent care.
I've managed not to hit myself in the head with a post pounder, but I do have a scar where I caught my knee with a machete and I smacked a knuckle with a 3-pound sledge once.; my sister, on the other hand, has a scar at the top of her forehead where she did the post-pounder thing, and one from there to her nose where her husband dropped a limb on her when they were cleaning up storm damage years ago.
Nice!

I think it's a requirement, to be on this thread.

Haven't a couple others also split open their heads?

Please remind all your chicken friends about our free poultry seminars at the WFF show in Chehalis at 10:00 and 11:00. I hope these 2 top poultry veterinarians will have a good audience!

at ya. BTW a little more of my story. See it was Michelle our 30+ neighbor gal who took me to ER. DW didn't want to go (but soon called DD to bring her in). When we got to ER they asked me "what happened". I told em I got hit in the head with a post pounder. That wasn't enough. How did this happen. So since they asked for a story I was gonna give em one. I looked at the lady and said well ya see my girlfriend here (pointing at Michelle) caught me with my wife, got pissied off and took the post pounder to me. Michelle thought she knew me until that. Her mouth just dropped. The ER lady had no clue what to say. It was amazing how fast that story got through the ER. And then when DW and DD showed up people were acting like they were afraid there was gonna be trouble. I was just LOL the whole time. Yes Michelle took lots of pics of my little cut and got the Dr. to open it to show better. They did a CT on mine and consulted a neuro doc. I guess it scared em that all they could see was empty air space.
Yes lucky me I had a hat on so the debris was contained rather than getting on the pounder.

I went into the chicken house to check for eggs today and found Minnow, my OEGB, standing on the heater. She really likes doing that. She's such a smart little thing. The oil heater sits on two cinder blocks and runs on the lowest setting. It's a safe set-up and it keeps them cozy! When it snows heavily, no one really wants to leave the house and mill around where there's cover. I go into the pen and look at their personal door, then ask them if they still refuse to come out. Someone will peer at me through the door, fuss a bit, then disappear again. I hope this winter is mild.

Unless your birds are not fully feathered -- your heater is totally unnecessary, and many of us will recommend that you remove it.
