Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I think I have a real flock problem and it makes me so sad to think what might have to happen. If y'all remember my girls had a "cold" (yes I know chickens don't get colds) a few months back but it was treated and taken care of by Denagard. I've been using the bleach solution in their water. Haven't noticed any sneezing like they were doing but I started seeing my Orpingtons combs turning slightly bluish purple in the last couple weeks. This morning my Lucy looks kinda bad in her comb. It's about half purple. I have no idea how that happened or if they have another (or the same) respiratory thing going on. I just want healthy freaking birds! I've done everything right, I clean out the poop shelf regularly and keep the run clean. How does this continue to happen to my happy backyard flock? Are they picking up crap from wild birds? If I kill all 12 of them and start over, won't they just catch the same thing? What do I do to get my birds healthy? I don't want them in respiratory distress! They are still laying eggs well; I get 6-8 per day from 10-11 confirmed layers.

Amazingly, gluten was the difference for my son, and dairy was the difference for my daughter.

They're all so confusing! Jeanine is the only one allergic to soy but we go soy free so we don't ever have to cater to one family member. Apparently I'm also intolerant to gluten and I'm lactose intolerant; I never knew about me and gluten until after we went off it and I tried something again. My body got happy and healthy without it and I was severely punished after having a wonderful pasta dinner with garlic bread at church one night. Doh!
Farmgirl's has 4 kids, 2 older girls, and 2 younger boys, the youngest is about 1 1/2 I think.
The boys go into anaphalactic shock if they even have a sip of any milk.
She had to raise them on cocnut milk.
The boys cannot have ANT grains, NONE, not rice, not Quinoa, NOTHING.
They are allergic to all meats but Turkey and salmon.
They are allergic to peanuts & soy and all vegetables I think she said excpt a few.
IMAGINE THAT !!!
Not even rice !
No butter, cheese or peanut butter, no milk, beef or pork.
She has her work cut out for her !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't offer any advice but I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Good luck and I hope it all passes soon.

Food is a sensitive issue for me and tone is so hard to get from the computer screen. Sorry I overreacted

Just have to remember than RonB, CR & on occasion, Mikey, can be some kinda Jolly Jokers.
It has taken me years to be able to "read" those guys...still, most of the time it is still hard to know if they are kidding or not.
But remember, they usually are just being funny !
They are all 3 very caring men.,

Hey! Another egg allergy soul on the "chicken" board.

I thought I was the only one off my rocker to raise chickens for eggs, when I couldn't eat 'em. Oh well, the family loves 'em.
T-Hi and a few others are allergic to chicken eggs, so they raise ducks.
They can eat the duck eggs just fine.

Imagine that nasty red eczema on John's leg... that's what my daughter's entire bottom, all the way around both of her entire legs from bottom to ankle, her feet, and part of her stomach and back... that was my daughter for the first few years of her life.

It was so bad one doctor had our entire family use a very expensive cream, that, turns out was highly carcinogenic, because he was absolutely certain she had been infested with some sort of insect that *everyone* in the family would catch from her. Every one of us had to cover our entire bodies with this dangerous cream that was about $200 per person, then wrap ourselves in plastic wrap and sleep in it. Not only did the nasty cream not help, but when the next pediatrician found out we had used that cream he was P.O.'d beyond belief. He said that stuff was so dangerous and our family should have never been exposed to it. Esp. since cancer runs in my husband's family. He said no doctor should have ever prescribed that for a family, let alone young children.

If they would have just tested her for allergies, we would have been saved so much grief. They didn't test her until she almost died from the Cashew Chicken.
Poor babies ! That is so sad !!!!

And it is so hard to get kids to stop scratching !
They do not even know they are doing it most times.

Zyrtec is a gift from God! I take it about 6 months of the year when the grasses and flowers are the worst. Make sure you buy the Costco/Kirkland brand. It's a full year supply for under $20 and works perfectly like brand name Zyrtec. Craziness.
Funny, my new allergy doctor recommended I try Zertec (Zyrtec ? sp ?) instead of eating dephen hydramine like candy...it makes me very sleepy...and sometimes tired enough where I do not care if my hair is on fire if ya know what I mean. Nothing gets done, it is all I can do to SIT.
He says Zertec does not make you sleepy but IS an antihistamine ?????????

We test and do one insulin twice a day with set doses. Then the second one is 4 times a day and it is a sliding scale depending on what her bgl is and what she may be going to eat. Yes math is so fun !
I could never do it, I cannot balance my check book.
That half of my brain never developed, I am an artist, not a mathematitian.
Einstein has to do the math here.

Seriously !!!

I have accepted my inadequacies in my old age !!!

If "it" has anything to do with math, the checkbook, addition, subtraction, yardage, measuring or weights & measures (and selling eggs) then Einstein has to do it.

Quite a few times he has caught me adding checks, rather than subtractiong them, from my account balance !!!!!!!!!!

I do not know how I do it, but I do do it very well !!!!!!!!
