Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

LOL We're planning ahead on that one!! After it's squared up, each wall piece will be bolted together, and the roof piece will be bolted onto the top plate. That way Lamont can finish the exterior, trim, window, shingles, and vents. After it's almost completely done, we will take it apart and reassemble it on the back patio. There will be a few screws to take out that hold the frames onto the bottom plate as well. But the coop floor won't be screwed on until it goes outside, and the floor joists will just sit in joist hangers so they can be removed. Hopefully we won't miss anything!

DH and I set our traps.  2 sticky traps, one on the coop roof, another inside the run, and two big plastic snap traps, one in the garage and one in the coop run.  DH gets up long before the birds so he'll move the traps before the girls come out.  I better see some dead vermin in the morning.

Oh, and on the way home from Lowe's, DH and I were discussing what one does with a rodent if you should be able to catch one on the sticky trap because it didn't really occur to me immediately that it would still be alive but just stuck.  DH says, "hit it in the head with a hammer or drop a big piece of cement on it.  OR Put it in a plastic bag and suffocate it".  When I balked at the idea he said, "If you can't kill the rodents, maybe you shouldn't have chickens".  I'm wondering if he's still downstairs inventing different methods of vermin slaughter.  After 25 years I'm wondering who I'm married to.  Shiver...

Yes, I want them gone, but wasn't really relishing the idea of actively participating in their death.  I can't even kill spiders.
Ohh, I don't feel so good right now... :sick

Oh, but then I read the instructions for the sticky trap which say to wrap your catch in newspapers and toss it.  That could be doable.

You drop the trap in a bucket of water and drown them. I couldn't wrap a screaming twitching rodent in paper. I've knocked them in the head before, but the bucket is better.

Doing this from my Phone is a pain. But For some reason my internet is down.
Well we found out we did not get the House! There were 6 offers on it and ours was 2nd highest, I guess I have to keep looking. So bumbed.

Awww, bummer!! I'm sorry to hear this. I will keep thinking positive for you and your family.

Good to know. Thanks!

Quote: I have ordered my saddles from here also. Great prices and free shipping. Get the ones with snaps! They a little more expensive but so easy to get on!

Also good to know.

More progress made on the chicken coop project from heck:

The walls are framed!

It will have nice, big doors for cleaning it out.

I love how the nest box doors turned out.

Now I can start painting and adding hardware cloth while Lamont is squaring it up and bolting it together. It really needs to be done in the next 3 weeks. I don't want to think about how long it's taken so far!!!

Wow! What a great lookin coop! I can't wait to see the finished product.

X's 2 Farmin Momma.

I think we are having issues with them too, rats or weasels. I just bought a rat trap (the snapping kind) today along with 1/4" hardware wire for a new coop skirt. Whatever is getting in, is able to fit through the holes in the chicken wire so we are going smaller.

Well I don't know where you are I am 10 miles south of Chehalis. The breeder I talking about is Cloverleaf Farm down in Canby.

Not picking on ya just making a point. I highly encourage people to learn how to cook. Now that doesn't mean lots of fancy stuff but at least a good variety. See IF and I hope it never happens to anybody. But IF something happens like when DW had the stroke. She was no longer able to (safely) cook. See It was enough of a challenge for me to learn all the special cooking. Lucky I had some training and several years in the food service industry. You can do it!! It don't take no silly book. Just start slow and get creative.

And no I am not a good cook. I like baking but I have to have a very detailed set of plans (that is what I call recipies) in order to do it. I can only cook about 5 dishes that are good. Other than that DH cooks most nights and man he can cook, but I would really like to be able to cook for him (and the kids) more often.
It just takes practice ;) If you make enough recipes and learn enough techniques, you figure out how to do things and eventually can wing it a little bit.

I'm not sure why, but I believe having a gas range makes me a better cook. Instant access to high heat, I guess.
