Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Just got back from Jennifer's House. Ended up bringing home more chicks then I planned to, but that is how the math works. I got Tikka the brown leg horn, two gold laced wyandotes (one we think is a boy) ans the Fav boy. I Will have to have her pm me their names so I can keep them named correctly.
Man her coop Project looks even better in person. I got to meet her silkies and wow are they white and so pretty.
Also her little DS wanted to join in on the visit and man is he a sweet little ball of fun.
So glad I got to visit with Jenn today and meey her very nice DH! Made For a great day..

Would not do for you to steam any crabs then. (I speak of Md Steamed Crabs, oh how I miss them)
Mikey, next time I'm in the Delmarva area I will see if I can't bring back some blue crabs for you. You can steam or make crab cakes out of them as you see fit.

Hmm, here's a question. I whittled down the number of birds in the outdoor pen from 8 to 4 today (thank you Farmin Momma!!). I was planning on waiting another week or two before adding the Polish and silkies to the flock. Since there was a change to the pecking order, would today be a good day to add the Polish? She hasn't shown any health problems since I bought her at the show. I'd rather wait for the silkies until they have the new coop, but the Polish is small enough to fit in the outdoor brooder.

What do you think? Should I wait longer?

Thanks for taking them all! Next time you come over, I promise I'll have the house cleaned up so we can hang around inside. After being sick over the long weekend and letting my 2 year old have free rein in the living room, it's pretty disgusting. The floor crunches. I think the chicken pen smells better than the kitchen.

My husband has never been all that enthusiastic about cleaning.

Actually, Tikka is the only one out of the group with a name! I knew I wasn't going to keep the SF boy so I didn't want to get too attached to him, and since we lost two of the GLW right off the bat, I didn't name them in case they died, and then just never got around to it. (Hehe, it just occurred to me that I need to name one of the silkies "Swiffer". After I figure out who's a girl!)

I think it's nice when BYC'ers get to meet in person and visit. Sounds like you helped Jenn out and made a nice score all at the same time!

Oh yeah you definatly have to name one Swiffer! Lol. And don't worry about your House being clean or not after you habe been sick, the whold world falls apart when Mommies get sick.
Maybe one of these Days you could come here and see my coop and birds. Next time I would love to see your snakes and other critters.

Again... Thank You CL. I just noticed the dirty fluff an one of my birds, but I checked her vent area and it looked clean. I hope that was the right thing to do . I just put a pan of dirt and DE in their pen 2 days ago since they haven't had a good area to dust bathe in all this rain. It was hilarious... nobody would put even one toe in it even to get sunflower seeds! Except miss bottom-of-the-order, she got her fill of seeds that time! It looks like they've gotten used to it now, though. And today I ushered them down to their old stomping grounds and I saw one, at least, having a great bath!

If you see a hen walking around with a dirty muddy cushion...she has mites, period.
DOUSE her in poultry powder, under the wings, all over the crouch & vent area !
If possible, bath them first & remove any of the gobs of mites eggs, then poultry dust.

CL.... Since I can't walk across the street with my bird and simply show you, I tried to take a couple of pictures today.
But first I want to say that her cushion looked pretty clean this morning when she was walking around. I could only see dirty feathers when I picked her up to examine her vent area.
Question #1: does that mean she doesn't really have mites?

Here's a picture of her bottom -- the only dirty feathers are the matted ones near my fingers:

I also noticed she's got a lot of bare skin on her belly (see pics below). She's not being broody, and I haven't seen her feathers decorating their pen.
Question #2: Is this a normal molt or something else?

So be on the safe side regarding the mites, I dusted her, my EE, and their perch.

Hi, brought home a pair of Australorps from Craigs list about 6 months ago, not from breeder and would like to re-home together to anyone interested...guess about 7+ months, male & female, not laying yet. Am in Arlington, work in Seattle. Am cutting back to my favorites....Free to BYC'rs, plan to list on craigs for a fee. PM if interested, Thanks, eliz
