Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

YOU WIN!!!! And they totally act exactly like the characters in the movie...

Thanks for the well wishes. I am phenomenally fortunate that my spouse is incredibly supportive, despite this disease cutting well into my salary since I am out of leave days. I hope a solution or a remission is in your, and everyone else's, immediate future!

Quick bird name LOL for y'all -- The 3 bantam "Easter Eggers" are the newest to the flock, only here for about a fortnight now. 2 of the 3 are sweet and friendly... the 3rd is nasty-aggressive - kicks and bites. I am generally not interested in feeding something that bites me, so when she was not present at dusk headcount Saturday I wasn't really sad and didn't do much of a jailbreak search. Didn't even consult the Fowlcatraz Bloodhounds (Clumbers... but you use whatcha' got! LOL). Had to come home from work early today (I consider it an accomplishment I made a bit more than 5 hours, though!) and there she was in the exercise yard.
Spouse thinks she looks like a lion, so I wondered aloud if we should name her after the Tiger that mauled Roy in his Sigfried & Roy show at the Mirage. "Montecore", I believe. Spouse is a stickler for details, however, so a tiger name when the bird looks like a LION is no. My next idea was "Rabies" and that was put into consideration, but she is also putting forth the evil lion in the Lion King movies, "Scar".
The last nasty bird we had was about 6 years ago one of our pigeons, we called him Ba***rd without the stars. Fortunately for him, but not us, he fathered the very strongest chicks (we never lost any chicks of his, other nests were a bit better than 50% and a pair surviving was rare, All of his survived.) and the best flyers, so we ended up keeping him around, though it meant I couldn't do pigeon chores b/c he'd attack me particularly viciously. He died of old age FINALLY after about 3 years with us.

I'll try to remember to report when we do decide on a name for her. And if she bites me again she better plan to have the most awesome eggs EVER... like with flashing neon advertising or something.
I would really like to see a picture of said awesome neon flashing egg. Hope it is before Christmas that would be alot easier then handing Christmas lights just lay your flashing eggs around.

Hi everyone!

With permission from the admin I am posting to let you know that there's a regional facebook group available for people with chicken hobby farms in the Pacific Northwest. The facebook group is not a replacement to BYC so please don't leave this forum. "Backyard Chickens PNW" (as it's simply called) is a way for Washington, Oregon and Idaho people to connect with each other about things that are local. Like the meetup group in Portland. Or the brands of chicken feed that are available here. Or to find a particular breed of chicken . . . that type of thing.

To find the group, search on facebook by entering "Backyard Chickens PNW" or try the link below.

Please take a moment to consider if you know of others that may be interested in the group. If so please let them know the group exists.

May your nests be dry, your eggs be whole and your chickens be healthy!

I was so busy painting the coop I didn't get around to it. I'll just put her in when I add the silkies. The Polish hen has already pecked the blue silkie in the head once when I left the cages open (the little brat went right into the silkie's cage and did it, the snot!), so if I add her at the same time she should be distracted and hopefully go easy on the silkie.

Sadly, the little white silkie is back inside tonight. She spent hours out in the brooder with the rest, and I saw her eat at times, but I had to stand her up after a few hours, and she was lying down again, breathing hard, when I was done painting. Something is still wrong, but don't know what. She poops, she eats, she drinks (although when she's fallen she doesn't), but she has trouble with her legs. I'm going to look up Marek's, maybe she's got it?

Silkies are very prone to Marek's. Stress ( as in a move) can bring it on. If she was not vaccinated, this is quite likely.

I removed the spurs on a rooster today. it was suprisingly easy and no blood really and the rooster didn't even squirm. I though it was going to be hard and/or icky but it wasn't! Watched a youtube vidoe and went out and did it.  One skill down, about 100 more to go! :lau

It's amazing what you can find on youtube! May have to do AI on some of my silkies and possibly my Favs, if trimming butt fluff doesn't help! You can find how to vids on that! Unbelievable! :th  :gig

That is awesome!! I didn't know you could do that....hmmm, your giving me ideas for my pain in the butt OEB roo.
Just be aware that you are only taking off the hard outer covering, and it will grow back. Just like your nails do. So it's not a permantent thing. :D

Also, though you're less likely to get holes punched in you, or otherwise suffer bloody injury, it was a recently despurred RIR rooster that gave me my permanent black-hornet-sting adhesion and nerve injury thirty years ago last March. So aggressive roosters who go after people need to be considered very, very carefully.
