I certainly will agree with that part about about assuming people are good inherently.
Possums, chukar, and pheasants were introduced to North America and are not indigenous, for fur or hunting I beleive. There are several kinds of grouse here in Washington and one or some may be natural to your area. I dont see a lot of native birds here in Seattle usually. The Stellar Jay, some Juncos I think. Crows. I dont know if you can legally set free captive raised specimens in Washington. In many states you cannt olegally do so without permits, etc. I do not know what kind of turkey is native to here either. An alternative for helping natice species may be to place nest boxes in appropriate places to help native birds and small mammals with rearing young. Planting strips of wintering forage may also be a good idea. It used to be a common thing to do, especially for turkey and deer. Also strips were left around property lines for quail and other birds to have somewhere to go. Somewehre along the modernization road it stopped happening.
There is a restoration project going on in Eastern Washington right now by the Dept of fish and game,::To restore the Sage Grouse and the Sharp Tailed Grouse:: we had posts on it months ago...anyway they were releasing birds into Eastern Washington in lands where they were once plentiful and are now extinct.
I tried to get into the hatch and release deal with those birds on the project but the DF&G told me that they are not hatching eggs and releasing grouse (sage and sharp tailed) what they are doing starting this spring is raiding nests of the 2 species in Idaho...then raising the chicks and releasing the birds.
