I really miss those light cream colored eggs from the Sisters. lol But there yolks were always so pale yellow in comparison to everyone else. I could never figure it out. Have their yolk colors darkened sence coming home with you Chickielady?

My four pullets are still holding out on me. Still no eggs, and its driving my nutty! I really want to get some chicks, but poor Illia... So many bad things can happen. So now I am toying with the idea of getting an incubator and setting it up for a early febuary set date. And just ordering hatching eggs. Hopefully through Illia or Pips&Peeps, but who knows now. This year has been OH SO funky, and has thrown all the critters off.

I have wormed the biddies and they are at this very moment up to their gizzards in the compost which I turned this morning and must have quite a few BILLIONS of FAT monster night crawlers in there.
The biddies are doing an egg a day, pale pink with a few crusty sprinkles on them...and the yolk has 'oranged up' although the egg shells themselves are still on the thin side as compared to the Marans...maybe due to the biddies age ?
They are very busy girls, hunting for worms and bugs and tid bits under every leaf...I really like them alot, nice to get along with, easy going albeit bossy and GRUMBLY when I over sleep and fail to show up before daylight to let them out !
They are awfully nice old biddies...white wine dots !!!

How old are your pullets ?
Usually 6-7 months is the time, but if they are in dark or dim light they may not start to lay until spring...gotta have 10-12 hours of light at the minimum.

I am going to set with what I have for now.
I have 3 blue Am pullets (who are in the coop with Clarence,

so hopefully he does not try to do the deed with them as he is sooo heavy !)
In spring I will see what I need...as right now I have my stock all bunched up in the 2 big coops...no one is throwing pure eggs but the BBS Marans, the Silver Cuckoos, and the LB Cochins but I am sure after the cold in Eastern Wa that Clarence is more than likely seasonably sterile...but Illia...try Cheryl !

Your a funny guy Rustler.

I was just thinking a couple days ago about the potluck and was there any interest in having another. I'd be up for another, I enjoyed meeting my fellow chickenonians.

Russ- and as I recall RonB was the professional baker, I just dabble.

I was a professional and institutional cook for a long time, fast food, and fine dining, so if you need help catering the party I am glad to volunteer to sous chef or prep cook !!!

Wow, the snow is just falling so fast and heavy!

The ducks and geese finally ventured out after my husband used the snow thrower to make paths to the duck garage. They were for us to get to them easier, but they figures they were for them to use to come poop on the front steps.

This is so awesome!

I am so very ready to run away... little DD has been a complete monster. tipped over the full dog food bag, emptied out my pumpkin spice seasoning, and the betta food. She figured out how to put the collar around the poor dogs neck and was dragging her around.

This is only some of the things she has done today alone... Ugg... So wish I could afford a babysitter besides my mother...

Anyone want a two year old for a couple days???

She loves to help feed and water the animals, and is GREAT with chickens...

Momma Cheryl needs a break. lol

Took a bit of searching, I brought it down to a more usable amount.

Here ya go Chickielady:

Nutty Pumpkin Crumble

2 1/2 cups canned pumpkin
13oz evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
cinnamon 1/2 tsp
nutmeg 1/4 tsp
cloves 1/4 tsp
ginger 1/4 tsp

Blend all ingredients until smooth. Pour into
2- 8x8x2 or
1- 9x13x2 pan

1# yellow cake mix
1/2 cup melted butter or fat
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Sprinkle cake mix evenly over pumpkin.
Drizzle with butter.
Top with nuts.
Bake at 350*F until golden brown.
original recipe was 50-60 min.
I imagine it would be less in the smaller quantity and pans
Chill overnight, if you want it firmer. I prefer it room temp or warm.
This is a somewhere between a bar and pumpkin custard.

And of course you will want to use a gluten free cake mix,
and I think it would be fine with splenda or the splenda 50/50

Hope you enjoy

Russ
