I am much too hot in East King County.

The girls seem to be fine. They dug down in the soil under the coop. I don't have that option. Any advice for how to stay cool at work? We don't have AC and we must wear clothes and stay dry so the hints in the paper don't help. I heard that caffeine helps but I can't tell the difference.

It's a good day to be a lizard.

I work on the 3rd floor of a brick building. My office faces the south-west. It'll be sweltering in here in about an hour. It's already HOT.

Hey anyone in Whatcom (or Skagit) county. I'm in Bellingham. This morning our broody hen hatched out four little sussex cross chicks while we were away from home. She promptly killed them except the last one who hatched just as we got home and rescued it. Good broody, bad mother!

Does anyone around here have a chick that has hatched in the last couple days (or is expecting a hatch in the next couple) that would be willing to sell it? I hate to raise a chick alone until it can join the hens.

First choice of breed would be Ameraucana or EE, but really any standard size breed would be fine. PM me and I'll get back in touch,

Thanks,

Lee

I'd be bring jugs of half frozen ice water to work with me. I don't work now but that's what I used to do. Now I sit out in our 5th wheel with the A/C on

Wish I was closer. I've got 7 eggs that are due on Saturday and 2 have already pipped.

We don't have air conditioning either and I work in a stuffy old building. Today we tried keeping the overhead florecent lights turned off, the shades closed , ran a few fans and opened a few windows on the north side of the building to get a breeze going...it was much more bearable today.

Even my desert tortisoises look uncomfortable, I gave them a long soak in water this morning and I turned their lamp off and will leave it off until the weather breaks. Now I know it is hot.

I am a mail carrier and drive a hot unairconditioned tin can for three hours. I start delivery about noon. I start out the route with a 16 ounce bottle of ice and the water is warm by the time I drink the last of it. Our boss keeps telling us to drink plenty of water. There are no bathrooms out on the route. So basically we either don't drink enough out there or when we come back from delivering we make a beeline for the bathroom. When I got home yesterday I thought the hubby had turned the ac on b/c it was a "cool" 79 in the house. Thank goodnes for cooler wheather this weekend.

I would pass on the rain. I am a transplant from Eastern Oregon and like the dry. However I could go for a little cooler. I have spent the last 3 days welding with full leathers on it's gettin just a little too warm for that.

Okay now I seriously feel bratty for complaining about working in a building with no air conditioning!

Welcome Adrianna - you'll have so much fun with your chickens. They are very addicting, and this site is so helpful.
