I've love to live in the country, but its just not happening. That's why I adopted chicks this year so I could bring the country to me even if its just a small dose.

I actually called Everett Animal Control and told them I wanted to know what municipal code stated no roosters, but they said it falls under the noise ordinance. So as long as I can keep my little guy quiet he can stay.

I don't see that happening. Sooo anyone interested in a Goldenlace Wyandotte rooster 7 weeks old???

herbandteas - what are buttercup chickens?

Thanks for the link, I had never heard of this breed before, they are really pretty! I would have been tempted too...this chicken hobby is very addictive.

I'm a General Contractor (Remodeler) and I am not lowering my rates in this economic stupidity, I feel that if we (all of us in the industry) lower our prices just to get the job then we are sacraficing quality of workmanship. I believe that one gets what they pay for. Doctors, lawyers, L&I, state licensing dept, bonding companies, liability companies haven't lowered their rates to help ease some strain. Why should we lower ours? We (all in the industry) shouldn't have to sell ourselves out just to exist! If we did we wouldn't be able to pay for the things that the state mandates we have to be legal. 30 years my husband and I too have vested in this industry.....can't turn back now! Good wishes to you!
Don't give up!

God will provide!!!! He feeds the birds!!!

That's good to hear. It amazes me how people try to take advantage of us.
I've asked people why should I work for less?
Am I doing less? Giving you less?

I'd rather stay home then work for the wages some of these people are working for.

Just saw the pictures of a poultry farm fire in Stanwood on the news. Not good.
I see the Herald has an article about it.............

Massive fire causes $2.2 million damage to Stanwood chicken farm

By Jackson Holtz
Herald Writer

STANWOOD – Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a massive blaze at a chicken farm late Tuesday that caused about $2.2 million damage and killed about 180,000 birds.

Crews were called just before midnight to the commercial chicken farm in the 2400 block of 268th Street NW, North County Fire & EMS Battalion Chief Christian Davis said.

Several chicken coops were fully ablaze and firefighters immediately went to work to try to protect an office building and put down the flames, he said. Second and third alarms were called out.

With limited water supplies at the scene, 14 tender trucks were summoned to help more than 60 firefighters. Crews came from Skagit, Island and throughout Snohomish County.

It took about four hours to get the fire under control, Davis said. Hot spots and flare-ups still were being doused this morning.

Federal investigators have joined the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office in trying to determine what might have sparked the blaze. The federal agents are involved because of the high dollar loss.

Of the $2.2 million in damage, about $400,000 is believed related to chickens killed in the blaze, Davis said.

Officials do not have immediate evidence to make them believe the fire's cause is suspicious, he said.

Topper, the county’s new arson investigation dog, was helping to look for evidence this morning.

No firefighters were injured.

I agree. And there are a lot of folks who have forgotten the Three Laws of Reaping What You Sow. You always reap what you sow, later than you so, and a whole lot more than you sow.

This time too shall pass and folks will remember what others did during this time.

Of course, if you stay home, don't work, or just plain practice lousy business sense until you run your company into the ground, you can always try to get the government to bail you out!

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord and trust in Who our Provider is. As one of His children, I KNOW He will not give me a rock when I need a loaf of bread.

Matthew 6:33 works. Try it for yourself and see.

God Bless,

If anyone has missed me sorry, but we were having computer problems and just plain busy. Finally got the computer working halfway, but can't use my good camera to take pictures, have to email them from my cell phone.

I agree with everyone here about the economy, and from what I hear it'll get worst before it gets better. We got into our birds and gardening to help make it thru the bad economy, and I think we'll end up keeping both after it gets better.

So a little over a week ago I had a turkey hatch out, cutest little thing and it thinks I'm it's momma.

I also was given 2 goslings, one with spraddle legs so bad that it looked like she was doing the splits. She passed away yesterday, so now I've got her very lonely mate. I've got 7 eggs in the bator that are due to hatch on Sat and about 7 more under a hen that are due next weekend.

Anyone here interested in some Porchalin D'Uccle chicks?
