Flavor. lol.

I got sex-linked Wheatens. The male is a barred Wheaten, the female is a normal Wheaten. I'm expecting them tomorrow morning, but who knows - They may possibly arrive later today. They're being shipped.

We got a storm last night! I was VERY surprised I did not lose power, because things were blowing around like we wouldn't be in Kansas anymore. . .

Oh, and mine are "O-Shamos" - They're a larger type, and I mean large. . . They'll reach over 30 inches tall.

Hey whats with the Kansas comment.

Are you sure that it is a "generic" a** h***? I just found out that the Department of Game and Fish does not want Elk in our area...they sell tags and if the local herd that has started to settle here is not irradicated....the D of G&F go in and do it. The carcasses are then gathered and thrown in a rot pile. The meat is not given out, used, or anyother useful purpose. This really tans my a**. What a waste. I guess mule deer and elk do not mix well. They want to keep the local deer herd healthy (I agree) but they (in my opinion) want to keep it healthy as it pulls tourist (with their $$$$) into our area.

I would rather see elk not deer.

Me too

I have never seen a live elk...I would love to...but I do love my "bambies". I do think they could manage the herds and have them both (I would think), but if they do have to kill some to manage the herds....why do they not USE, pass on the meat? We have a couple of food banks. Or why not use it at the jail? Heck....give it to me....I would love to have an elk in my freezer right now. I have no problem with the managing....it is the waste that bothers me. You kill it...YOU EAT IT. I used to hunt, don't any more. I enjoy seeing the wildlife...wild.

We are up pretty high above the valley, all glacial till here. Not good for growing, so we had to haul all our soil up here into raised beds that I keep adding to because it all eventually works it way back down through the rocks. I'm hoping the chicken poop will help. The previous summer, my garden grew great.

Elk can be a problem here too - I love seeing the huge herd of them when they are down in the valley in the fields between North Bend and Snoqualmie. I'm not so happy when they are in my yard stripping the bark from all my trees, ripping out my kinnikkinnik and tossing it because they don't like how it tastes, and hopping the fence to get what apples from my orchard the bears missed. The elk do a lot of damage to the nurserey and other places in town. They are not even native elk, but Rocky Mtn Elk that were brought in for game 100 years ago. I don't like the idea of hunting in the valley - too many people, I also don't like people bow hunting up here for the same reason. Last fall I was out for a walk and saw trails of blood everywhere and ran into a man who was looking for the bear he shot with an arrow - just what I want to run into on my walks, an angry, injured bear! A few years ago it was a huge male elk wandering the neighborhood for a week with two arrows stuck in it. It finally died just off my neighbor's deck. Seems like there should be a more humane way of thinning the heard and doing something useful with the meat.

Cowgirlgrace - Yes, Shamos are chickens. They're a very old breed of chicken, and are a part of all the other "Oriental Gamefowl," which Shamos, Thailand, Asil, Malays, etc come out of. The original Cornish (not those disgusting white meat birds, but the true Indian Game) also root from Orientals. Russian Orloffs were even created from Oriental Gamefowl.

Uhm excuse me but ya might want to put some warm pants over the Thermals. For two reasons one it will make them more effective and also to keep ya from looking too silly in town.

That Elk kill is totally unfirgiveable. I could understand if somebody killed one to feed thier family during these hard times. But to kill 12 no way. Since there was "some" meat removed I really doubt that it was DFW.

pips&peeps :

Are these Shamos actually considered chickens?

I think they are really tiny velociraptors.................

Except that Velociraptors ARE tiny dinosaurs.
