Welcome and too bad we didn't know who ya were so some of us could have met up with ya at the show.

Yeah...I'm planning on Monroe though if y'all are going...

The Future of Food was really eye opening for me.. I knew that stuff was going on--but kind of 'didn't pay attention' ... out of sight out of mind. We are trying really hard to buy most of our groceries locally. It's hard and it's expensive. The whole GM thing--that just makes me MAD. Scientifically speaking, I think what you guys were doing in the early 90's WAS cool- ground breaking.. an herbicide that can kill weeds quickly and relatively 'safely' (I DON'T know the mode of action, so I don't know how safe it actually IS, I just knew that Round up was used in the Zoo's)... anyway, from a consumer's stand point--and a mom with pets and kids running around the yard--that whole concept was pretty neat --to me. It's the round up resistant seeds etc, and the greed and the monoculture the whole thing has caused that is heartbreaking.. good ideas, wrong actions. in a nutshell I guess.

on a better note--how was the egg? yummy?

CR ~ it's under our 'more about family' link a little farther down the right side --- for some reason I thought I had time to maintain TWO blogs--- one for family and one for 'farm'...

DD reports the egg was yummy. She just ate it. The yolk was so dark, it was nearly orange! The other eggs we have are organic browns from QFC, our egg yolk was much darker.

Congrats! If I get early peepers, I usually get a pip by the following night, then hatches the next day, probably morning or midday.

Well, I re-homed one of my favorite roosters last night. Pikachu, my buff wyandotte roo, went to a friend's house to live. She loved him when she first saw him this spring and so she was the first person I thought of when I thought about re-homing him. He's just not an alpha roo, I guess. Too many young guys beating him down. He was so unhappy, hiding in the corner all the time in an attempt to keep from getting picked on by everyone. I'll miss him, but at least I know he's going to a good home...

WOW! Cloverleaf you scored bigtime on that Crele Chantecler especially if they just gave him to your son!!!! If I ever have enough coop space, I would definently be looking for some eggs!!

Congrats on the first egg!!!!

It is still wrapped up in a paper towel, in my dresser drawer.
I still do not know what it is.
I wish I could send the pictures of it to the Dept of Geology at WSU or someplace that studies fossils and weird rocks...anyone know of a place like that ?
