A drink with nutmeg? Do tell. I love spices and combining with with a nightcap sounds inviting. Something to warm you on a cold winter night, curled up on the couch with your SO.

SEATTLE:

I am heading to Seattle on the 1st/2nd and if anyone is interested I will have some birds for sale. I have a pair of black silkies at $100 (black pullet, black cockerel, cockerel is SQ and female would be except tiny stub toe on one foot), a PQ pair, SG cockerels in white and blue, etc.

My blacks are my favorites, and I win with them. This fall in MT I got CH Featherleg and BB/RB silkie with black pullets under two judges, BV with white showgirl cockerel, in ID I got CH FL with a black pullet, reserve FL with white cockerel, in Stevenson BB and RB with white cockerel and black pullet, BV and RV with white SG cockerel and pullet, in Chehalis I got BB and RB with black pullet and white cockerel, BV and best AOV with white showgirl pullet, plus BV and RV in other varieties.

I also have some lavender cockerels available.

Sometime back I had talked about flatiron steaks. Love them. We have a traeger BBQ/grill (love it). We just grill them. I cook them on a higher heat. When done we Cut them across the grain, very yummy. I put a bit of seasoning on them...Salt, pepper, maybe a rub.

I knew I read something when the discussion was going about steaks! Thanks, have a flat iron in the fridge. Was going to have it for Christmas dinner( had the big dinner on christmas Eve so DS could spend Christmas day with his girlfriend and family) Well, then the neighbors had a big bon fire and hubby and #2 son went over there for the evening. All the guys, so I didn't go. They all drink beer and shoot the moon. He texted and said he wasnt hungry so maybe tonight for the steak.

Ha, talk about drama. When ever the neighbors family comes to their house he always has a bonfire with the beer and all. I go sometimes but all the wives and even his daughters are always nagging him to stop drinking and get inside, they are yelling this out the back window, his wife even came out to pull him aside to give him a lecture. The poor guy can't even have a drink with his buddys and enjoy some time with them. The guy only drinks a few times a month anyway. She is such a controlling nag. Thats why I stay home and don't join 'the women' in the house. I'll have a few beers by the fire then go and let the guys do their thing. The way I look at is at least they are drinking at home and not in a bar somewhere then driving home. My husband came home early and said there was way too much drama. He couldn't handle it anymore. The thing that really gets me is the wife on her birthday drank a bottle of wine all by herself, she doesn't usually drink so it was pretty bad, there was no one there for her birthday but my hubby and I and her hubby so he had a bonfire and we just had a good time with some food and our entertainment was his very drunk wife. Hmm. ok for her to be drunk by the fire but not him. Such a double standard. She was apologising to me the next day and I told her what happens at the fire stays at the fire. She needs to Chillax. She can't control everything and she can't change people. Just love them the way they are and let it go. You only live once.

If the flatiron steak comes in one long strip, cut it into steak sizes - maybe 4x4" sizes. Salt, pepper, anyother goodies or rub you would like. Throw it on med-high heat...cook, flip...cook. Cut, yum.

Depending on where you got it it could be cut different ways. Some come already cut into individual steaks, others come as a long strip. I am not even sure what cut it is...

CL, Sorry you had to spend Christmas by yourself. Hopefully the group hug worked. I missed out on that yesterday! Wish you were closer. We could have had our own party while the guys were out at the fire. Or we could have crashed their party! We would promise not to nag!

This is in a strip. I sprinkled some soy sauce on it then put some Montreal steak seasoning on it. Had it ready to go yesterday so it's in a ziplock in the fridge. I could cut it into 3 pieces. I'll let you know how it comes out. I've never had it before. I love flank steak but the price has gone way up. It used to be an inexpensive cut.

Let me know how ya' do. I agree, steak cuts (well everything) has gone up and got expensive...the inexpensive cuts have gone up (I think) because the cooking shows are showing you how to use those inexpensive cuts and make them yummy.

Well boyz and girlz looks like time to batten the hatches again !!!!

I went outside to start doing some things and when I looked at the sky I thought " I am gonna get wet here soon". Sure enough it started raining pretty hard as I headed to the house and by the time I got in the wind came up and boy is it blowing. I should probably go get the generator ready but hey that would mean going back out in that stuff so I will just take my chances and deal with it if the time comes.
Everybody prepare yeesef. Looks like its gonna get gnarly again.
Well the whirlly gigs on the front porch just started disapearing.First time that has happened.

It is a very old drink that stems from taverns in Merry Olde England which were called 'Tom amd Jerry's"
At this time of year the mix is easy to find and the best is Trader Vic's and the worst is the marshmellow goo Safeway and other groceries make up and sell in their bakeries.
There are alot of recipes on line but do not get it mixed up with hot buttered rum
The drink involves a BIG mug , add about 2 or 3 heaped Tablespoons of the batter, then 1 to 2 jiggers of whiskey, fill to the brim with hot water, stir, and top sprinkled with cinnemon and nutmeg, fresh nutmeg grated over the top is best.
You can add more batter to make it more sweet and desert-like or less to your taste. I LOVE this drink.
Look for Trader Vic's Tom & Jerry Batter in the wine area or bakery, comes in a wide jar about 6" high or so...
