Also kelp meal. I believe hoeggers dairy goat supply carries it.

I was wondering about non vegetable protein sources. I've heard about canned cat food. Wanted to know about cost effective sources. I have too many chickens to be feeding them canned cat food, tuna and mealworms. Since I have breeding pens the chickens don't get to free range everyday. They have to take turns so wanted to supplement. However I agree that kelp is great, so is flax and rice bran. All bulk items that can cross over to the horses! Isn't Hoegger goat a mail order? If anyone wants a less expensive source of kelp you can get it in the wholesale fertilizer supply houses. I buy it in 50# bags for making organic fertilizer. I think Wilco in Puyallup has it and Wilber Ellis in Kent/Auburn same exit as the race track on the other side.

Ohhh .. Right. Now that you say non veggie, I remember that.. Yes hoegger is mail order but have always been nice. I don't remember the size of the kelp they carry ...

How about a rotisserie chicken from freddies?

I don't particularly like knitting, but I could bring some beading. My youngest brother knits. Apparently, everyone knits where he works, so he decided to learn, too. I believe he's knitting me a beret as a late Christmas present. My sister, the milliner, is making some kind of flower, probably felt, to adorn said beret.

I dunno.. my mom and DIY both reported it snowing but melting... maybe we have a cold spot on the hill?
We have about 1" here too from over night...

The crescent moon was pretty when I came home from running errands last night, too.

I'm at the Ocean Shores house now and there's no snow. It was gray and drizzly on the drive down, but just as I hit Aberdeen the sun came bursting through some gorgeous layered clouds. It was brilliantly reflecting over the water as I turned onto the road that leads through the woods to Ocean Shores. Still clear - just arrived back from running some errands and was appreciating the crescent moon. I hope it doesn't snow this way or else I'll have to go home early so I can make sure I get to work by Thursday.

I just learned a little about a self feeding non plant protien. The way it works is you take a 5 gal bucket drill holes in the bottom and part way up the sides. I think they say 3/8" holes. Add meat scraps and hang it about 2' off the ground in your run. Now the idea is that flies will go in lay eggs which will turn to maggots. The maggots will go down and when they fall out bingo chicken treats. They say that if there are 100 flies 20 of them will go in. This means that you have basically reduced the fly population by 20% and yer chickens get goodies too!!!!

This is such a great disgusting idea!!

I meant to tell you that earlier. I think I'd rather teach the chickens to eat slugs tho!! Hahahah!

I thought maybe your sudden desire for colored bottles last month meant you were making a bottle tree for Christmas. Did you? Was it appreciated?

Some of the yarn shops have lessons, and/or stitch and b*&ch sessions. Ask around

I learned how to knit to show my 13 yr old daughter who had to go through surgery that required a bed stay of 8 weeks.
She never was interested but I made a scarf. I can't knit in the round but I want to learn to make gloves and socks.
Anyone wanna teach?

I would love to teach you the bits that I know but not sure of the distance. If you find a pattern you like and have a yarn shop near you. If you go in they are usually so helpful when you get stuck or need advice.
Next, you will be on the yarn animals threads looking at an angora rabbit, alpacas, mohairs, ....

I wouldn't want to hang that anywhere anyone could smell it though.
