web sites state that often it is not the alcohol that sets off the immune response but something in the drink such as hops, wheat or sulfites in wines, or grapes themselves.
I google up "allergies" and alcohol & allergies, several web sites appear. You need to pin point which alcoholic beverage it is.

Its any kind... I used to drink and had no problems. But a year ago, after not drinking for over a year and a half, the very first sip I took caused both shoulders, and my wrists to feel like they were on fire. Its an excruciating pain, that takes anywhere from 15 - 30 minutes to stop. So I have avoided drinking all together, but on nights like tonight, I really wish I could have one or two, if for nothing but to warm up.

Ive tried drinking wine, distilled spirits, malts, beer... It does't matter what it is so long as it has alcohol in it. Even the codine cough syrup that I had to take "has a small amount of alcohol" caused me to be in pain.

sounds like something making your immunal system very angry and it is attacking the joints ...kind of like RA.
Hmmm it is usually how it happens that while you refrain from something the immunal system can build up auto antibodies to 'it'

I saw one web site that was speaking of alcohol exascurbating existing conditions of some diseases...I will surf and see what I can find.
And in the mean time, I drink Hot spiced cider, man is it good, or all sorts of teas.
I have tons of teas.
Hope you feel better and hubby gets home tonight in one piece..is he working late ?

lol If it was just a dull pain, I would still have one now and then. I can handle dull pain, but the searing pain, like hot iron being shoved in my joints, I can't handle.

My family thinks its all in my head, and hey! Maby it is. But I still wonder and sometimes want a little sipper.

Sorry, nope. My Ameraucana cocks and cockerels are the sweetest, most love-puppy breed here, and my pullets vary from slightly shy to also puppy-like. Never had a seriously skittish one.

The only freakishly flighty breed I've had experience with are Jersey Giants, but I think it was just that one strain. Most other people tell me they're pretty calm.

Must be that they are broody raised, even though we were both all around them every day...

About 6 months ago I got a small shipment of hatchery chicks. My favorite one (an EE) ended up being a Roo - of course! I live in a rural residential neighborhood, so I ended up giving him to my sister who lives in the sticks.
Since then, my sister has gotten a new flock of chicks and my Roo is being a big time bully. The plan was to eventually butcher him, but now the date has been set. Thanks to Frugal's excellent picture tutorial, I will be trying my hand at processing a chicken for the first time this saturday.
Any pointers/tips I should know before hand?
Here's a pic of the bully:

And apparently he likes to go after my oldest niece.
