Illia, are you getting a new puppy? Did I miss this news?

Yes, we're getting a Boerboel Mastiff, imported straight from South Africa.

Wow, what kind of hoops and paperwork did you have to do to get him? You will have to definitely post photos...I love mastiffs. What is the difference between "mastiff" and Boerboel mastiff? is Boerboel the breeder or line?

Yep, listen to Chicken Rustler. Ya don't want WHITE eggs. My white leghorn lays an egg 6 out of 7 days and its so BIG I can't fit it in the egg cartoons

If you want friendly Brown layers, I would get sexlinks. they are good layers

Boerboels are a breed of mastiff. There are English Mastiffs, Bull Mastiffs, etc.

Boerboels are a South African Mastiff. Here's an example of one, one who infact is directly related to our pup.

I honestly don't know the hoops, my mom is the one doing the purchasing. She's been through it before though, although on the selling end, not the receiving end.

i tried to pm you.. am having stupid computer problems.. irgh

If there's a run to this area, I'd like to also get a back of Poultry Special and a bale of straw for my gf who is not a regular BYC'er. She has a coop of 6 hens in Tacoma, and one of them is "ours". Which doesn't mean much except I picked her out to be mine so I get eggs. I get the girls special treats sometimes. Do we pre-pay Scott to get an order on his truck?

Edited because I meant straw and now after seeing other's post, we may rethink the straw after all. My gf is thinking she may not need that much. But we definitely would like to try at least one bag of Poultry Special!

the straw bales are "1/2 bales" only about 30-50lbs each I think they are perfect sized for city yards. I use them in the winter coop then when I clean the coop I place the straw in the garden to be tilled in soon. (I have a large area for garden for a city lot)

Would you be able to pick up from Pacific/auburn area?
You pay at time of pickup (JB that is correct for Pacific too right?)

I am the Drop site for North Seattle and I pay for all the feed and when you pick up from me you pay me. This way Scott gets paid at 1 time and pay at pickup means no one is out any money until they get feed in hand. (I might end up with more feed then I planned if someone does not pick up but I have goats and birdies to eat it all

) I do not charge any extra for being a drop site/care taker so all I ask is that once the feed has been delivered ya all come get the feed out of my poor van asap! poor thing gets over a ton dumped in it for storage on delivery day. 1 ton + in a poor littl 1/2 ton van (not moving while loaded)

What a gorgeous dog. Are they used for livestock protection? Or is this going to be a family pet? I know you have lots of farm critters - so curious.

I think that I will confirm at 6 bags of layer in Pacific, and no straw. The straw was not what I had been hoping for. The bales are standard size. I was hoping for compressed bales that are about half the size of a regular bale. I think I now have enough straw for years. I may just try the straw bale type raised bed this year.

Those ARE 1/2 bales JB really they are! the full size bales are about 1/3 longer a bit wider and twice as heavy!
I used to sling enough of em as a kid on a farm to know

Ok 6 bags of layer down for you

We'll be breeding them (yes, shame in this country, I know) and they'll mainly be family dogs. They were originally a farm/guard/lion hunting dog though. We'll socialize ours with the farm animals, especially the yak, but they won't be livestock guardian dogs.
