I think I want to ad some Barnevelders to my flock. Does anyone here raise them?

I looked at Paul's Poultry - those are some very pretty SLW's! Their markings are much nicer than my the ones I bought on "My Pet Chicken" one of mine isn't even really laced, more like a mini deer hoofprint mark on each feather. They still make nice pets, even if they don't look so fabulous. If someone places an order, I would like to add a couple. I am also willing to be the one to place the order and have them delivered here. I'm just off I-90, and probably a bit easier to get to for some people. I'd be more than happy to house them until people can pick them up as my new coop is almost complete. I went a little crazy, did not want to have to expand what I bought yet again, so I will have 5 coops with runs (the 2 portable ones I already had and the 3 new ones). I currently have 9 hens, but I am going to buy some more birds from Illia ... I'm excited! I'm thinking with all those options for housing them, maybe I should have one variety that I maybe try and raise, and all the others for their pretty eggs. I like the partridge and penciled birds too, though I have to admit, of my 9 birds, I like my RIR best. All my birds are friendly, but ever since I carried this one around for a few hours several months back, she has been extremely friendly. When they are free ranging, she's always is the first to greet me, and never fusses when I pick her up. She has beautiful, dark, shiny Mahogany feathers, and is very calm. If they are in the mesh fence enclosure, one of my EE's flies over the fence to greet me! The others try and come too, though most stay on the ground or crash into the fence because they can't fly high enough.

Yes but I don't think it is enough to give me away.

Well, I am here for the moment. I have all the kids mad at me....(doesn''t really matter why)...it is time to make some tea and relax and read all my BYC goodies.

Thank you CR for the # of the post of CL of the duckle....I just showed my DH....Way too cute.

And T I just don't have the right facility for duckles. Maybe some day when kids are gone. It would be fun though. Gosh they are cute.

he-he....I will never tell.
Hmmm, should I tell him about my Adobe Photoshop 7, kids use it all the time....I should have them show me how to use it.

Ogress, Cowgirlgrace has Barnvelders in her signature line. Royce, aka: tailfeathers also has some, he's up near Granite Falls.

Ogress, color isn't everything. . . Show Quality birds like from Paul's Poultry not only have better lacing, but they're much bigger and fluffier and rounder than yours and my hatchery Wyandottes.

Chickielady - Yes, Murray McMurray is the worst about that. They're the only ones left who continue the Araucana baloney. . . At least other hatcheries call 'em Ameraucanas, which is a TINY bit more similar.

Mmm mmm!! I just had myself a 6 month old pullet that I grilled up w/ butter, served with cheese and sweet peppers, oh my! So good!! I'm so glad we now finally have chickens again that are actually "eatable" not just for stew and the dogs.

Speaking of which, after a post on CL asking for extra free roosters, we picked up two Bantams today, and my my one of them was gorgeous!! He was the color of a Golden Cuckoo Marans, and I'm certainly going to use his feathers.

Tomorrow I'm headed off to collect more roosters and a couple Drakes - Those I'll be eating myself though, not for the dogs. The last duck I had was out of this world delicious.

Oh and one of the roosters is a Silkie. Can't wait to see in person what black meat from a Silkie really looks like!
