You guys are too funny!

If RFF gets chicks from Pauls, count us in! Heading over to see Ogress in N Bend wouldn't be bad.

If you want bantams that lay well you may want to check out the RIR bantams. Ours are laying some pretty good size eggs for banties. And they are so friendly and calm. I was told by the breeder that is the nature of them.

I was thinking the very same thing, and they are beautiful birds !

I have a source and hope to soon have a breeding flock of my own.

T-Hi on the road yet ?
We are home if you are coming down.
The prognosis on the ducks is not good.
I am going to waite 1 more day and then they get tossed.
The good news is, you have lots more eggs and we can always hatch more.
Something odd went on as the eggs were gathered, and maybe this one that hatched early was actually being brooded by a hen... or they were all held at too high of heat and had developement begin.
Then after that the embryos may have been damaged in transit...that is all I can think of as the one hatch at day 19 !!
But, Daffy Duckles is doing great, growing like a weed, and super cute.
Chickielady is having a horrible reaction to Gluten Free flour mix...it contains: White Rice Flour, Brown Rice Flour, Xantham gum, Buckwheat Flour, Corn Startch, Potatoe Startch, and Quinoa flours.
All mixed up, I use it as a wheat flour replacement.
But, after a week of having a cookie here or banana bread there, I am sick.
I am thinking it is Buckwheat...so Chickielady has more research to do as is laying low....

You feel like sharing the aforementioned source there CR? I would consider the RIR bantams. I want something purebred, hatchery is usually better for egg laying and non broodiness I think. However if they lay good and are super purdy thats a plus too. I figured I would check locally to see what I could see first.

Where you all want to have another meeting? The same place or move it this time?

Well, after discussion, it seems the duckle eggs were collected and held in a warm enviroment after all, explaining the early developement of the 1 that hatched on day 19..and maybe why the rest were so active the first week and then seem to have suffered a trauma in shipping maybe..or some such as they were developing before they went into the incubator.
Our duck egg collecting team will be better at it next time.

They just did not know to keep the eggs below 60 degrees.

DIY: I highly recommend the bantam RIR that CR has, very nice birds !!
They come from a very, very long line of SQ beautiful birds, not hatchery junk.
