I hatch eggs and sell chicks.. what ever chicks I don't sell I try and sell as juveniles and if that does not work I try again as layers (roosters get sold before crowing or eaten after first crow.)
If they Still don't sell i cull for the freezer.... but most sell as chicks

At what age do they usually start to crow? Are they already tough at that age?

No, at least my birds, are still good at 7 months old for pullets, 6 months old for cockerels. I just had a 7 month old pullet earlier, and she was very tender.

Crowing can begin anywhere from an early 2 months to a late 8 months old. Average is about 5 months.

And, if you slow cook them in a crock pot, it doesn't really matter how old they are.

I will be at Monroe but still not sure about showing...maybe waite until next year.
Illia, I have a litter of 7 bunnies that are weaned and have to go in the 'growing on ' cage. The growing on cage has 2 does in it, just about ready to breed.
If you do not want them I will send them to the freezer.
If you do want to come get them, I can breed them back to a big buck for you, and also include an immature buck. So you will be all set up.
Let me know, Feed is expensive and the does are about over fryer stage.

Just got home from DD's surgery. All went very well. The extra sesamoid bone they took out was much bigger than expected, it was an inch long! No wonder it hurt! It was on the bottom of her big toe. We asked for anti-nausea meds this go around after two bouts of oral surgery where she barfed all the way home. It's just one of those little skin patches, but has made a world of difference!

Went to the Dr this morning to have exam and blood drawn, he is pretty sure I have RA on top of everything else...
I have a fear, that if it is RA, I will have to take the immuno-suppressing RA drugs. This is supposed to stop the progression of the disease, but in the process, it can suppress the immunal system to the point where I may have to stay away from all my critters, birds included.
That might make me decide to NOT take the drugs and be crippled and pain riden instead...
