I have no idea.

I house my bachelor roos or those whose hens need a break with my muscovies. They seem to do just fine as long as they have a roost to get up & out of the duck poo.

Let me talk to hubby, I'm a ferry ride from downtown seattle. I could even pick the roo up in Tacoma... maybe near the narrows bridge? If you're coming in on 90, then there wouldn't be problem hooking up with you. Is it better to email or pm you once hubby gets home?

Equibling, if it doesn't work out with Rainplace, I might be able to house him. I am in Eatonville and I could meet someone near I-5. I will tell you what my situation is and you can decide.

I have a very large dog house not in use. I could put it in my chicken run and wire off a section for him seperate from the general population. He could hang out there. I don't know what he is used to. The thing I want you to know is that my run is chicken wire and I usually lock my chicks in their coops at night for safety. The chickens in this coop are all very young -- 2 weeks to 2 months -- so I hesitate to put him directly with them.

I live in the country and I am sure we have preditors around. I suppose I could put a door on the dog house and lock him in at night like I do my chickens. It is totally up to you if you want him in the situation I can provide. I have not lost a chicken yet.

I cannot put him with my hens in the other coop as I already have roosters up there and I am sure he would not get a friendly welcome.

Heather, I could probably keep him for you until Thanksgiving.

But I gotta tell ya, it's been cold and rainy here lately and I've lost some juvenile chicks to hypothermia this week. So, since I'm not familiar with the breed, I don't know how well they do with wet and cold.

If you want to take the chance, send me a personal email. I've been so swamped that I haven't been on BYC for awhile. Stopped in last night for just a bit and found 300 pages that I couldn't even begin to read.

God Bless,

Rainplace & Tomatolady--

Thanks so much!!! I spoke with David (the seller) through email and he will be attending the Stevenson show! So if either of you are--then maybe that's even better? Also, I spoke with Christina a few days ago and she's attending nursing school on the westside--although I forgot where....so maybe she'll be able to get him before thanksgiving?? I shot her an e-mail this morning, so we'll see...she's coming to my anyway in a few weeks to bring me some Sebastopols...

Thank you! I think we've got it covered though. This rooster is a BIG boy...fully feathered and very close to full maturity...so he wouldn't need a heat lamp or anything. I think sussex are supposed to be fairly hardy birds--I sure hope so with my winters--but he'll have an insulated, dry coop...so he should be okay...

My husband told me no way would he be woken up in the morning by a crowing rooster

With that being said, I can pick him up at the show and take him to someone further north. I'll also be transporting 5 ducks...
