Thank you....I will go look. I know that there has to be something out there that would work good....you are so injenuitive (sp?), such as with the feeder bucket. I already bought the expensive waterer....waste of money that was.

plastic folgers can....hmmmmm. Nail or screw in the wall....wrap plastic can with some wire (ie, bailing wire) a couple of times, twist off in back, make a loop and use loop to hang from nail. Viola...waterer. maybe? will have to experiment.

You have been esp-eeing on me, havn't you ?
I thought the can/wire thing meself, but I think the wire would slide off, from the weight of the water...some 7.32 pounds per gallon...I am gonna surf Petco & Drs Foster & Smith.com and see what I can find, then have to make brunch.

Has anyone thought of useing the heated dog bowls, set up on a shelf? Granted this would only work IF you have access to elecrticity in your coop...

Ok so I finally got the name of these trees that I am nervous about in high winds. They are Black honey Hawthorns... They were planted about 45 years ago by my neighbors family.

These stand close to 70 feet tall. They are the perfect halloween tree, if only they weren't so big. lol

And my cute, evil, little silky hen, who has yet to lay me an egg. lol

My "ESP" is a bit rusty....so I am not sure if that was what it was.....

but, (I don't drink Foldgers) does the plastic cans have "lips" that might help to told the wire on? Or drill a couple of small holes towards the top that maybe thread the wire in and out of to help hold. I thought of the slipping too....I will experiment and look and maybe you and I can come up with some interesting ideas. Anyone else have an idear?

check
out these ez crosks, the ones on the bottom of this page, and they come in bigger sizes, forget the plastic backing tab, just drill the hanging holes up on top as far as possible, drill in two large headed screws where your cup needs to be hung (at bird's chin level) and hang it on the wall.
Should work...Bass Eq is a good outfit.

Cheryl meant to tell you Hawthorn is used alot in treatments for Congestive heart failure..to reduce imflammation, I saved an article to show you..got it here somewhere

CL, I understand you have your cool feeders inside now, but I my coop isn't a walk in, and only 4X8 so do you think they would still be okay under our covered run if I attached them to the base of the coop somehow? The coop will be 2 1/2 to 3 ft off the ground, but maybe I could figure a way to get the feeders chin length for the hens. I've also looked at the possibility of getting one of the treadle feeders built - anyone here used one of those? They amuse me - Not sure why I'm reminded of when I was really young and the B&I Circus Store here in town used to have one of those baseball playing chickens. Wasn't necessarily humane - that was the same store that housed Ivan the Gorilla for many years until he went to live at the Atlanta zoo in their Gorilla habitat. Okay, that was some roundabout rambling... Criminy.

Original question: Will I have problems with rodents in the feeders if they're hanging outside in my covered run?

Yes. And unless you cover the entire run with 1/4" hardware cloth, you will have the wild birds in there eating it too, and they can spread diseases to your birds.

Oh really? Well when you have the time, and you find it, please do email that to me. Wonder if these are the same hawthorns... I know that these are a hybrid cross, and have never seen berries on them. But then again these trees are HUGE and I dont get to see what grows up at the tops. lol Maby the berries that the article mentions are actually the budlets before they bloom? before the blossoms open they look like little white cherry clusters. Very pretty, and heavenly to smell when in bloom.

If I remember correctly, I was told by the Dr.s that my heart would never shrink back to its original size. So it will always be a couple cm larger than it is supposed to be... But I am willing to try holistic remedies, even though the Dr.s say it wont work.

Does anyone have any red clover growing? I really want to grow some this year, as it is FULL of anioxidents, and helps rid the body of certain nasty cells that I dont want to think about... Anyone? Or does anyone know a good nursery where I can get a good amount of Red clover?

Yes, supposed to spray on legs. I've never done it but it sounds like it works much easier than vaseline (which I have tried).

The prob is that the people who backyard breed care less to vaccinate the dam than to make money on her reproductions so she doesn't give the puppies the antibioties that are needed in her milk. Very sad. An innocent life is lost. Very sad to euthanize a wagging smiling puppy that wasn't given a chance.

So far all of our parvo pups have made it. They are put in isolation at the clinic...there are kinds of special rules for the isolation room to not spread the parvo to anywhere...change of clothes, spray the feet with Parvosol, only certain person allowed in...everything to eliminate contamination. The pups are on IV drips for as long as a week and shots twice a day that are painful. People have had to put out a lot of money to save their puppy when a $25 shot from a vet or whatever it cost at the feedstore would have prevented the whole entire horrible event.

I do NOT miss Parvo season..

being a cats only hospital, we don't see that.
I always felt SO bad for those dogs.. they feel AWFUL, and it is so expensive to get them to live through the whole ordeal. Yes, a vaccine is much much cheaper.

Hey Jen, my Serama eggs go into lockdown Tuesday night!!! I'll candle then. BUT I did candle ONE, and it was developing!!

And I don't even want to THINK about parvo season!! ugh....
