I got a couple of those galvanized feeders from someone, but my birds don't like them. The feeders and waterer are very much like the waterers that CL makes. The waterer comes in 2 wall-mount styles, one that is hung low with round openings at the top for them to drink out of, and the other hangs high with nipple waterers at the bottom. Usually I prefer the nipple waterer, but the nipples tend to freeze in this weather, even if the rest of the water is not frozen. Unlike the rabbit waterer that the birds prefer, the nipple waterer does not drip. One of my EE's will jumps up on the high waterer and drinks from the top ... she always has to be different!
The feeders look like pac-man, or

Hmm... That's what I was afraid of. The coop is just a few feet from the garage door which is connected to the house. I'd really like to avoid having rodents that close to the house. I'm guessing our cats are actually freeloaders and not willing to fulfill their job description. So the treadle feeder is sounding like a better idea for our situation now. I've seen the video where the rat steps onto the pedal and the feeder doesn't open for him. And I know we have wood rats around here - I've seen them skittering across the driveway at night. DH has found one dead in our backyard, but I'm not sure who actually killed it. Dog or cat - no one has stepped up to take credit.
The coop is an all in one - so yes, all area underneath the hen house and under the covered run will be covered in 1/4" hardware cloth. That was a requirement for me in my plans. Trying to keep out as many intruders as possible.

Yes. And unless you cover the entire run with 1/4" hardware cloth, you will have the wild birds in there eating it too, and they can spread diseases to your birds.

I accepted "I don't like it" after they tried it. They had to TRY everything. With their multicultural background, my kids will eat some unusual things.

It's above freezing here today, but that wind is cold. I've got a bunch of baby trees to get in the ground, plus the peony I bought yesterday. The Bletilla I bought yesterday, and the bird of paradise that came in the mail yesterday need to be planted in pots. Not to mention it's coop cleaning day. I guess I'll just have to bundle up.

Does anyone have any red clover growing? I really want to grow some this year, as it is FULL of anioxidents, and helps rid the body of certain nasty cells that I dont want to think about... Anyone? Or does anyone know a good nursery where I can get a good amount of Red clover?
